The NRA and their supporters in Congress must be confronted head-on....

It should no longer be a positive to run for Congress as a lobbyist for the gun industry. Those that support assault weapons under the guise of the 2nd Amendment should no longer be allowed to escape the wrath of the voters. They have shown that they are not worthy of our votes.

After the rampage and killings of the children in Newtown, CT, there is no defense left for assault weapons in the hands of "law-abiding" citizens. It is time to confront them politically and to make them pay a political price for their support of the NRA and their cowardice in the face of necessity. Let us draw a line in the sand. Either you are for the safety of the American people or you are for assault weapons. It has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment.

5. Even Antonin Scalia can't stomach their bullshit

2) Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons. Pp. 54–56.

They have no right to undermine the public safety of the good people of this country.

6. You really think all those Red states are going to punish gun supporters?

Texas, Alabama, Georgia, etc are going to embrace gun control? Really?

They are repukes and tea baggers - they are not rational.

8. How is that your decision to make?

When the other side states "It should no longer be a positive to run for Congress as a lobbyist for Planned Parenthood" don't you get a little queasy?

Every person has there own pet issues, and it isn't up to you decide what a portion of the Country, or State decides is acceptable. North Dakota just elected a progressive democrat woman who happens to get an A rating from the NRA. That is very important to her state. Are you going to tell them that they are wrong?

There is a reason Democrats run away from their own party when gun control issues come up. The amount of times during the last election that many people here had to dispute friends and family's constant retort that "Obamas gonna take away my guns" was phenomenal. On DU alone there were threads every other day asking help on debunking facebook pages, etc was constant. Now those same people that convinced friends and family that "Obama wasn't gonna take away their guns" have their tails between their legs.

I don't know what part of the country you are from, but here in Mid Wisconsin, everyone and their brother has guns. They have had them all their lives, and they aren't gonna give them up now. You can scream till your head falls off that it is "assault rifles" only, or high capacity magazines, but when the Vice President says that executive orders may be used, that doesn't calm the nerves of every day people.

Good luck in rural America in 2014 if too many laws are changed.

11. All very by-the-book

NRA talking points. Yes, having an "A" rating from the NRA is like an endorsement by the RNC, Fox News, and the KKK all rolled up into one. No, we don't need NRA endorsements to win elections, and we proved that when President Obama was elected for a second term.

Your, and the NRA's threats that we Democrats will lose votes if we back gun control measures is absolute bullshit, and is about the only thing that gun fetishists have left. Most gun owners are sane, responsible, and reasonable Americans, and are NOT a part of the problem. It is gun hoarders, gun shows hawking all kinds of military-looking weapons for wannabe soldiers to play with, and the NRA and its corporate sponsors spewing lies and disinformation for fun and profit who are the problem.

This reminds me of the "they're gonna put fluoride in our water" craze that NRA and Libertarian types ran around with their hair on fire about, until nothing actually changed, and we didn't all die from fluoride poisoning. When you and the NRA start crying before you're hurt, it's a sign that you're either extremely paranoid, or way too attached to a killing machine.

One last time: No one is going to take away your fucking gun. It may be regulated and you may have to register it, but you can still kiss it and stroke it as long as you want.

14. Your argument is weak.

The NRA is weak. People are sick of you and your argument. Take your assault weapons and go into your bunker and leave the rest of us to live our lives in peace.

9. The line in the sand has been drawn...

Either you are for the Constitution or you are for mob rule. If someone says it has nothing to do with the Second Amendment, it does.

You could be trying to find ways to reduce the levels of violence and mayhem, or you could just take the easy way out and find a scapegoat. Suddenly, anyone who owns a Glock with an 11-round magazine becomes your target. Great plan, there.

15. K&R

But Biden on Thursday cast the coming recommendations as coming from the groups he has met and not the administration. He said he's repeatedly been told there's a need for universal background checks on those who purchase guns, and that a ban on high-capacity magazines is necessary.

"There is a surprising — so far — a surprising recurrence of suggestions that we have universal background checks, not just close the gun show loophole but totally universal background checks including private sales," Biden added.
