(2,282 posts)But I might go for a walk in the forest with my gun collection (for protection from bears and mountain lions) and a shovel to look for high altitude rhubarb. Maybe I can find some and dig up some root stock for my garden. Though it looks like it might rain so it would probably be prudent to put the guns and ammo in a watertight PVC pipe container. I just hope I don't accidentally set it down and forget where I put it. It would be a shame to get back to the 4x4 with the rhubarb and realize that I left the guns and ammo somewhere in the forest.
This high altitude in Colorado makes one forgetful.

(146,254 posts)that the Obama Administration is going to confiscate firearms. If I am incorrect in that assumption, then your post is way out of place on DU.

(146,254 posts)If the OP is making fun of that intent, it's all well and good. I'm not sure, however, if that was the reason for the post. Perhaps the OP will clarify.

If it is insured, hope you have a very good attorney on retainer if you file a claim.
MineralMan
(146,254 posts)question did not get a response. Are you hinting that you're planning to "lose" your firearms collection in the ocean so it can't be confiscated by "Obama's minions?" If so, then my response is: Nobody's coming for your guns. Nobody has even proposed such a thing, and nothing of the sort is going to happen.
If, on the other hand, you're making fun of idiots who are seriously thinking about such a fake "loss" of their firearms, then I'm with you 100% in mocking such people.
If you wish, you can answer. If you don't wish to answer, I'll draw my own conclusions.

(146,254 posts)I'd gladly register my firearms. I have one 12 gauge pump action shotgun, a sporterized Springfield .30-06 deer rifle, and a genuine 1911 Colt .45 semi auto pistol. I have a couple of other antique firearms as well. Registration of my firearms wouldn't bother me at all. But, who are the "they" who are proposing firearms registration? The Obama administration? Who?
However, I don't think you can answer my question to slackmaster.
hack89
(39,171 posts)look at machine guns and other NFA restricted arms for example. The guns are actually registered with the government by the manufacturer or importer, not the users.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Firearms_Act#Registration.2C_purchases.2C_taxes_and_transfers
This seems to me to preclude retroactive registration by the federal government - my private property is not an intrastate commerce matter.
I am not sure how it works on the state level.
As for the confiscation, no politician will ever propose such a thing. However, many here at DU have expressed a desire for confiscation - perhaps his comment was also directed to them. After all, a lot of gun control sentiment here is not grounded in fact or reality.

(146,254 posts)in posting that here. You can't answer for the OP, obviously.
DU is not a conservative website. It is the opposite. I'm a firearms owner, too, but I'm not someone who is concerned about the "government" coming to confiscate my guns. It's a bogus concern. I am concerned, however, about the attitudes of some firearms owners. I'm especially concerned when those attitudes make it into GD on DU.
Your mileage may differ.

(146,254 posts)I don't know. As it turns out, I happened on this thread through jury duty after the OP was alerted on. I voted to leave the post, along with four others, because it was not clear what was being said in the OP. So, I asked. No answer being forthcoming, I have drawn my own conclusion about the intent of the OP.
As far as firearms registration is concerned, I have no problem with registration. I never have. It wouldn't affect me at all, and I'd be happy to register my firearms. I have no belief that anyone is planning to confiscate them, so it doesn't really matter to me if they are registered or not.
Others feel differently. I don't think anyone is seriously proposing retroactive registration in the first place, anyhow, and I know there are no confiscation plans in the works. It's simply not an issue for me.

(135,425 posts)just to play an insurance fraud game to keep guns--if that's what the deal is (either real or mocking) here.
If you're in a crappy boat, you're going to have to go into the water to make the whole scenario believable. And you'd have to go far out to see in order to minimize any attempt at salvage.
