That he is threatening another war? Or that the story of Saddam's WMDs is repeating itself right there? Iran is not making a nuclear weapon, or at least there is no proof that they are. IAEA says that, even Israel says that (!), but Obama wants Iran to stop doing something they are not doing.
Iran has not attacked another country in 250 (two hundred and fifty) years. Iran is no threat to anyone, but is itself being threatened: get a map and see how Iran has been surrounded by US military bases and US-controlled regimes. Imagine you are responsible for the safety of Iranian citizens. Would you feel safe? A few months forth, are you really going to believe yet again that war is the only option left? |

I truly believe that the president means well and is not a warmonger. ETA: He also mentioned that the money that we're no longer spending on wars should be put to our infrastructure and jobs program. I do think there is a stark contrast between the two major political parties. As I sit here, struggling to stay awake while listening to Mitch Daniels, that difference should be abundantly clear. |

hawkish, but it's also going to require a change in this blood thirsty American culture.
After all that we have accomplished on the international front, Americans still are convinced that Republicans are better on foreign policy. That is astonishing to me. It's going to take some time for people to understand that going to war isn't always the answer. We can no longer afford to be the "police man" of the world. Our economy is dying. I really do believe that Obama is not a warmonger. |

but I don't think he's a warmonger either - and i certainly can never vote repub - so we'll just have to hope he does better in his second term. Every post I post about Obama is trying to push things to the left pretty much - here and many other places around the interwebs. I don't have much faith in the intelligence of the American people though, sad to say.

But all this discussion of politicians' personal feelings misses the point that there is a much larger systemic problem and financial juggernaut driving these policies. Until people understand that, they will continue to fall for the spin. |

Last edited Tue Jan 24, 2012, 10:51 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I remember when comedian David Steinberg told Johnny Carson about a nasty review of his stand-up routine that complained he focused too much on himself. The title of the review was "David Steinberg: 'Me, Me, Me." Steinberg said, "Um, I'm a stand-up comic. My whole routine is about my experiences and observations. What a I supposed to say?--'A funny thing happened to your wife on the way to the theater'?"
