Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker (Washington Post) slams Honey Boo Boo

Disgusted by the 7 year old, Parker had to change the channel in order to purify herself:

"In urgent need of purification, I changed the channel and, lurching past my usual flat-line pursuits, landed in a documentary about Alexandria (ancient Egypt, not modern Virginia.) How do you spell relief? (Donít ask Honey Boo Boo.) Hearing about a day 2,300 years ago, when knowledge was valued as much as gold, was like sinking into a warm bath."

2. Well you have to give her credit though

Yes, as some are bound to note, there was blood in the streets. Alexandria through its history was home not only to some of mankindís greatest intellectual achievements but also to some of the human raceís vilest expressions of violence.

Notably, in the fourth century A.D., Christian mobs dragged the beautiful and brilliant Hypatia ó philosopher/mathematician/astronomer/teacher ó from her carriage and commenced to strip, flay and chop her into pieces before burning her body parts on a pyre. A confessed pagan, she was a tad too smart for divinely inspired men ó what with that astrolabe she was always toying with.

I thought she would have avoided that little nugget.

So for her honesty, I'll take her over honey boo boo.

5. Kathleen Parker was the first Repub to slam Sarah Palin ..

the day after the Katie Couric interview with Palin, Parker called for her ouster from the Republican ticket, calling Palin unqualified. She got a lot of blowback from that.

3. In defense, I've seen a couple of 2 minute youtube videos of Honey Boo Boo but her family is loving

They are intact. They are honest in their relationships with each other.

My evaluation is surely skewed by such a limited viewing but I saw nothing to make me recoil in such horror that I had to flee seeking "purification".

They appear to be a typical southern trailer family trying to grab their 15 minutes of fame. I've seen worse.

4. Caught a clip of Honey Boo Boo being led in a "stripper dance" by her mom.

I found it disgusting, and a sad commentary on what our society is becoming.

I could go on, but I won't.

8. I don't get the Honey Boo Boo hate

Yeah I was kind of shocked I think it was the language I wasn't sure they were speaking English. But, other than that they seem ok the family that is. And Honey Boo Boo is a child. So, this Parker lady if I should call her that likes slamming children? What ever for?

12. It has to do with the mindless drivel...

that passes for television these days. The history channel is no longer about history, A&E has turned into the pawn channel, etc... The networks pander to the lowest common denominator of intelligence. Nothing to feed the mind and make you think.

Hopefully the viewing consumer will wake up and demand quality programming.

13. I watched Masterpiece Downton Abbey. Really enjoyed it.

Now I'm not into Honey Boo Boo, but I will tell you this much I have respect for June the mother because she said she won't be moving to a new house. The big purchase was a used SUV. She has put into a trust fund for her 4 daughters and 1 grandbaby until they reach the age of 21 unless they need it for health purposes. Another observation is that they are very confident family. They know who they are and they support their community. I'd say they are better then most of the housewives shows. They are all very happy. There isn't any of the fighting you see with the housewives shows or Jersey Shores. I'll give her the credit.

14. this is what republicans have fought so hard for

an unaware, uneducated, and easily distracted populace. the audience of honey boo boo is the fruit of their labor. she ought to stop complaining about what she and her cohorts have wrought.

ETA: ironic that more people watch honey boo boo than will read pretentious Kathleen's article. do you get the idea that she fancies herself Hypatia?
