Those "patriotic" postage stamps

Yes, I do use snail mail. For all invoices and payments and letters. I use online payments only for local utilities (we also have landline).

So I have been purchasing several booklets of the "forever" stamps: first the bell and then whatever caught my fancy, like the bonsai ones.

But some time ago I purchased the flag stamps, not realizing that each one, in addition to the flag, also has a word added: Liberty, Freedom, Equality and Justice.

Now, I don't have problems with using these words to describe our country, though I know that some on DU will take exception. I do, however, object to having letters coming from me carrying them.

Just as I will not wear a piece of clothing with the American flag and any patriotic words, I object to adding them to anything being displayed or mailed by me.

Time to replenish my supply. I will be very careful what I purchase now.

Sigh.

1. Thank goodness for people like you - obviously there is nothing about America worth celebrating

America is a terrible place full of terrible people. Why won't they let people like us, who see America for the Depraved Awful place it is, run things?

5. Compare to what?

Russia? Syria? Egypt? any European country on the brink of bankruptcy?

But, as I say, glad that we all can express our opinions without being thrown to jail.

those other nations might have some problems, but are they really gumming things up the way we do?

2. I just bought 3 sheets of 'USA GO GREEN' stamps. They're bigger than the

old Statue of Liberty ones, but they had these and some with planets

6. Thanks, will look for them

During the Holidays I needed some non-flag stamps and the person at the window recommended Earthscapes which, while larger, are quite nice. Got 15.

3. Sweet Jesus! Now the USPS is promoting "Justice and Equality?"

Where will the outrage end?

Ridiculous. I give you triple facepalms!

4. Almost all stamps are "forever stamps" now.

You may pay more for some of them, because a portion of the proceeds goes to a cause (the tigers, for example, cost 55 cents each - with a portion going to saving tigers).

As the poster above noted, they have eco stamps . . . all kinds of stamps.

Look at the USPS site and you can decide what will work for you. https://store.usps.com/store/browse/category.jsp?categoryId=catBuyStamps

Nice way to start. Perhaps, someday you will post something that actually means something, that will get other interested in what you say. No?

better to use the anonymity of the Internet to offend someone than to kick the dog, or offend you co-workers - if you have a job - or beat your wife - if you are married.

I don't go out much and am not "hip."

But then, you had to edit it four times so perhaps you are not sure either.

18. That particular animation is often used online to show sarcastic support.

It's from "Citizen Kane." I had originally put something along the lines of "Way to take a stand," but then decided to use the gif, because it cracks me up. It took me several times to get it right, as you noticed; I can never get gifs right the first time.

26. At least you didn't post a gif of a flag

with words like "justice" or "equality" included.

That would have been unforgivable.

Insidious.

...And why call it "US Mail" and the "US Postal Service"? Are other countries not important?

Fucking America-centric nonsense. Thank you for being vigilant.

29. those are not uniquely American values

we didn't invent Liberty, Freedom, Equality and Justice. I don't consider those words as "patriotic" anymore than Peace, Beauty, Love, and Harmony. They are just words.
