Rep. Grayson mocks ‘bath salts caucus’ for voting against Sandy relief

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) on Monday mocked the 67 House Republicans who voted against disaster relief funds for the victims of Hurricane Sanday.

“It’s the same 67 over and over again,” he noted on The Stephanie Miller Show. “It’s the bath salts caucus, the people that would rather eat your face than cut taxes on the rich.”

The bill provided $9.7 billion for those whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy last year. The 67 Republicans who voted against the bill objected to it because the funds were not paid for with cuts to over government programs.

Grayson said that Republican obstruction in Congress had become worse since his previous term in the House of Representatives.

1. "rather than *cut* taxes on the rich"?

I don't think that word means what someone thinks it means.

3. Beware the Returned Rabble-Rouser...Indeed.

Wonder how much federal disaster money has been allotted to those states? Surely there is a number.

When Red State Envy crosses the line, Blue State generosity and liberal largess (for lack of a better description) needs to be re-assessed. It's a kind of Goose and Gander type conversation. I don't mind paying for someone else's disaster, leaving God-as-culprit out of it for the moment, but I damn well expect responsibility and accountability and action in return.

18. What a funny time to start demanding accountability

How many audits have there been done of the wars last decade? or the bailout? of charter schools (private schools using public money), but when people desperately need money right now so they don't start dieing in the streets it is 100% accountable or nothing.

22. I think you might have missed the point? These (mostly red) states have been granted disaster funds

even though many of RWNJ political idiots went around criticizing and demonizing FEMA... but when in need, they easily belly up to the Disaster Funds Bar. Many of same now deny the other states (Blue States) that have been approving/paying for their disasters.

Perhaps a bit rhetorical. How much have they received? That's where we start with the aid to the NE. And next time they ask for funds, check the voting records of their elected officials and refer back to said subject matter. That's accountability in my book.

7. Hey I also have some words for the Shitbirds 67

You want to cut spending? How about your own bloated salaries? Have you given back that latest raise yet? Hell, my last raise was in 2008, before your Wall Street buddies sent our Ship of State straight down the crapper.

How about your health insurance? I have the "Cadillac" plan through my employer, but every year it costs more and covers less. Compare that to your plan, not a Cadillac, but a Rolls Royce plan that covers everything and costs you little, because we the working people of this country have paid for it through our taxes. How about we cover all of us with Medicare, and you can pay for anything above that out of your own freakin pocket. Multiply that savings by 535, and Congress can man up to this "shared sacrifice".

How about your retirement? Many of us have little savings left after the above-mentioned economy's trip down the toilet. Our 401Ks, those of us who still have them, which are fewer and fewer these days, have only a fraction of what we need to support ourselves and not require our KIDS to help us survive our senior years. And pensions? Outside yours and some mostly some UNIONIZED workers, it is as dead as the dodo. Nobody out here in the hinterland gets a pension anymore. That would cut into the profits. The way I see it is that you should get basic Social Security like the rest of us. Finance anything above that on your own goddamn dime.

And don't get me started on the defense spending......dear God, I'll have to call Skittles to weigh in on this, as I have neither the vocabulary, nor the ass-kicking capabilities she has.

Here ya go. If you are really sincere as to your belief about cutting spending, here are some suggestions completely under your control. You can cut these without having Mitch sing along with you, or the drunken Cheetoe to cry for you.

And you can quote me on this.

12. The GOP needs to be PUNISHED for voting against Sandy Relief

Start with cutting DoD programs that are in Red States to the tune of 10 times the amount of aid that was requested for Sandy.

Talking away what the GOP love most of all, money, is the only way to get their attention.

14. I was wondering how long it would take him to make a very Public entrance in his trademark style...

turns out, four days. FOUR DAYS, and he coins a new and completely appropriate term for the loons who have the gall to call themselves "Public Servants".

We missed you dearly, Alan. Welcome back to The Show, baby.

(as an aside, I have NOT heard that we got any kind of functional fillibuster reform out of the Senate on day One. Did I miss something?)

17. Rachel Maddow

Mentioned something on it on Friday's show, basically saying the Reid had said the the Day 1 stuff was active until January 22nd. I don't know any details on it though outside of it's mention on the show, but apparently it's still a viable option for the moment.

and he's got some experience under his belt, knows his way around the halls and most importantly, what we're up against.

It seems like such a long time since he was in Congress - good to have a fighter back.
