4. I mean, we could discuss the merits of the Ticketmaster/Rolling Stone love child

if you'd prefer...

There are many reasons why Rolling Stone is a hollow shell of it's former self, but yes Taibbi is one of them.

5. It comes out twice a month, circulation is 1,464,943

Rates as 54th in US magazine sales, ahead of Vanity Fair, Vogue, Playboy, The New Yorker, Elle....

7. So it circulates a LOT of paper...

B.F.D.

I'm going to guess that a sizable portion of that circulation is from professional buildings whose recurring subscriptions come from individuals who have no interest nor desire to read about the music industry; it's bedside manor for the waiting room crowds...

The second largest demographic is from checkout aisle teens making bedroom collages of newest heart throb du jour.

Circulation means nothing.

29. I've had my share of one-finger-salutes in my day...

What's another?

It still doesn't excuse the fact that as a publication that cut it's teeth on music is viewed by many musicians as not fit to shim the urinial plumbing in the mens room...

8. That's how fucked up our media is...

When I have to go to magazines like Mother Jones and the Rolling Stone to find decent journalism.

Let me guess---you subscribe to Time Magazine?

9. No sir/m'am...

I subscribe to no periodicals; the only one I receive is from a membership to our local Audubon Society.

Rolling Stone is the only magazine I have an opinion on one way or the other...

Do you have a fucking problem with that? Since when did mocking DU'ers for reading a liberal magazine become a favorite past time on a goddamned democratic website?

13. Well, if you must I suppose...

My deep seething animosity towards Rolling Stone is more seated in it's inability to objectively cover the music industry; not so much as it's editorial positions...however I do occasionally take aim with them.

Try to relax; it's one man's opinion.

16. I'm glad you posted this. I read things from all over the world and don't discriminate

against the link. If it's interesting and it's news, I read it then decide for myself what I want to take away from it. I've noticed that doesn't seem to be the rule here, especially when the post comes from someone new to DU. I know now from your post that sharing anything from Rolling Stone would be a bad idea.

It would make things a lot smoother for new people who don't know the acceptable links, if someone would just post a list of the 15 or 20 acceptable links so we know where we're allowed to share from without getting flamed or called a troll. I never would have guessed Rolling Stone would be considered a joke here. I guess I have a lot to learn.

21. RS is certainly not on any 'blacklist' that I know of on DU...

Please do not take my own personal opinion as an indication of what is tolerated as a proper citation.

This place is full of opinions; not everyone has to agree with them. Case in point being this very opinion I am expressing regarding Rolling Stone; doesn't seem to be a popular one...however it's mine and I'm free to express it. It doesn't speak for DU as a whole, however.

BTW, welcome to Democratic Underground!

25. To be honest, a half thought out OP...

My issue with Rolling Stone is not particularly always it's editorial positions; however with it's coverage of the music industry as well as a few sellouts to various festival and music industry giants to further it's circulation...I just cannot bring myself to seriously look at a cover of Rolling Stone with a straight face and think: objective journalism.
