SC woman shoots self while seeking gun in purse

SC woman shoots self while seeking gun in purse
The Associated Press

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. A South Carolina woman who packed a gun in her purse is recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A North Myrtle Beach city spokesman says the woman shot herself while driving Friday because she was fumbling through her purse for something and accidently pulled the trigger.

Spokesman Patrick Dowling says the accidental shooting happened near the city's public safety building and quickly pulled her car into a police department parking space to seek help.

An Horry County ambulance took the woman to a hospital.

31. She didn't have the safety engaged because she was ready to smoke the first scary criminal that made

faces at her as she drove by.

yeah, she needed protection from the boogie men who she was paranoid about

what if she got into an accident and killed a family with six kids in an SUV because she was fumbling through her purse that had a gun in it

18. This woman (and she's hardly alone in this) has extremely poor risk assessment abilities.

Sometimes I wonder how different our society would be if people were actually educated to be able to judge what risks they face.

27. That's the problem I see with this "arm everyone"

Mentality. So many people are unable to exercise good, mature judgment, yet they are free to arm themselves if they can afford the weapons and pass the screening.

I'm glad this woman shot herself instead of an innocent bystander.

I wish every person shot dead, by accident or murder or suicide, was listed with a picture on the nightly news.

20. Unfortunately that's not true. Lots of intelligent people are routinely killed in

accidents caused by less intelligent people.

That would have worked.

before she shot herself... Err, I know, shot the gun out of her other hand with the gun in her other hand.... Wait a minute, I'll come up with an NRA approved message in a few more tries.
