Inflation adjusted S&P 500

An informative chart.

In nominal terms the stock market peaked in 2000 then cratered, then recovered almost all the lost ground by 2007, then cratered, and has now recovered almost all the lost ground again.

In real dollars (adjusted for inflation) the picture is less exciting.

You made me go out there and look for charts.

And just now, your chart reappeared while I was typing this post. One I saw that was interesting and related (and from a similar source) was a longer range where you see back before the '80s -



It seems the deregulation periods of the '80s and the repeal of Glass-Steagall at the end of the '90s, generated definite shifts.
