Who will be watching the SOTU? Who will not?

And why, if you want to write?

I'll be watching, and for two reasons:

1. It's an important speech by the President always, and I watch all SOTUs that I can.
2. I want to see if any of the teabagger moron Congress members shout anything ugly.

So far, I haven't seen a thread on the SOTU yet today, so here's one to get things started.

3. There is some discussion about today being the perfect day for Obama to talk taxes.

Because it's on the same day Romney releases his tax cuts. Couldn't have timed this SOTU address better.

5. That's a good point. I wonder if Obama will call out

Romney directly, or will just refer to it in some other way. I'm thinking the second option.

13. Yeah, maybe not an outright attack...

but he may point out the things some do like Romney to avoid paying taxes.

27. He will not sigle out Romney.

He has too much class to do something like that. Besides, the SOTU speech shouldn't be a political speech, and calling out Romney specifically will do that. He can talk about the inequities of the current tax code and tax rates without directing his aim at any individuals. And, since Warren Buffet's former secretary will be sitting with Michelle, I have little doubt he'll be putting out some sort of plan to deal with the tax inequities. But, "calling out" or otherwise criticizing specific individuals is not likely going to happen.

It would be fun, though.

9. It will be interesting to see ...

whether people here really do watch it. And to compare the number of threads related to it in the hours after the speech to the dozens and dozens of threads generated in the aftermath of each of the recent Republican debates.

I don't mind if few watch it. What I will mind is if people who didn't watch it suddenly have all kinds of comments about it the next day, only after having read what others think.

I've always watched SOTU speeches, even (gasp) Bush's.

11. There should be a lively live thread during the speech.

I won't see that, though. And you can count on comments from some who don't watch it, too. That's standard.

16. I always watch, too, no matter who the President is.

It's always an important speech, since it is a constitutional duty of the President to inform Congress about the state of the union. I've listened to almost all of them since high school days in the early 60s. I always learn from them.

25. I'm always interested in how it's said,

as much as what's said. I also watch the Congress's reaction throughout. It's a pretty good indication of what kind or response they'll make as things are introduced. It's probably the most interesting speech of the year, from my point of view.

1. The airwaves have been bombarded with eejit Republican't Presidential Candidates for months. Point blank - I'd like to hear an intelligent person speak for once.

2. Sort of the same as you. I'm actually praying for it. Because who ever ends up getting the nomination in reason #1 - will be reminded he is steely and cold and can give them a verbal whipping.
