You can't get Current/Aljazeera on Time Warner, but you can get porn
Priorities!
But while Time Warner doesn’t think its customers need access to this important knowledge, it does continue to offer dozens of channels dealing with pornography, high-end shopping, and other less-informative networks: Read more: http://boldprogressives.org/timewarnercable-drops-current-after-al-jazeera-buyout-continues-to-offer-a-dozen-porn-channels/

The American People should be allowed to purchase their channels ala carte, that would eliminate so much useless propaganda poison now cluttering up cable space. Thanks for the thread, Report. |

2. There's a boatload more demand for porn than for Al Jazeera
|
There are lots of channels that most cable and satellite systems don't offer, but they all offer porn. There is a store a few miles from my house that sells nothing but "adult" publications. There isn't any store that sells nothing but news magazines.
Get it? |

4. So there is no public interest for the news?

Got it.
Also any evidence that Al Jazeera English U.S. wouldn't get more viewers than the "Gem Shopping Network"? |

6. any evidence that it would?

Or that it would get more viewership than Current, which was on the chopping block because of its low ratings anyway? I don't have any data one way or the other, but I feel fairly confident that most if not all home shopping networks produce more net revenue for their distributors than Current was producing (or Al Jazeera would produce).
Ovation, an arts network, just got dropped by Time Warner Cable on January 1. Politics had nothing to do with it. It was a decision made based on a business judgment and timed in relation to contract terms. And, yes the public has an interest in receiving news programming. But that doesn't mean that every news channel has some sort of right to carriage on every distribution medium. |

is going to shut down Current. Can't believe Al Gore threw it's viewership under the bus. Glenn Beck tried to buy it too. I watch their shows every morning. They had good documentaries on too. All gone.

5. Fuck Al Jazeera

I want Current, with American Progressive voices, not a world news organization with an agenda and their own sacred cows to protect.

8. So do you also not like BBC America?

I don't think they bought Current to get rid of the Americans.
