Unlike Time Warner, so far Comcast is still carrying Current TV

I've been reading Stephanie Miller's social media feed, and a lot of people are fuming over Time Warner's abrupt slice and dice.

1. What's Time Warner's problem?

It's not like they don't own and/or broadcast into other countries.

Or is this just another case of the corporate double standard?

2. I don't know much about Time Warner

It's just kind of shocking that they dropped it so suddenly. I thought the transition wasn't going to take place for a couple of months, yet.

3. Time Warner made clear it was going to drop underperforming networks some time ago

They dropped Ovation, an arts network, at the end of the year. It has been widely expected that Current would get the axe as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Other networks also probably will get cut in over the course of the coming year.

7. They cut Current because it was just purchased by Al Jazerra.

10. They cut Current because the sale to Al Jazeera gave them the legal right and opportunity

As I said, its been widely known that Time Warner Cable had targeted Current, among other networks, to be dropped. Ovation went first. Current went now because under the terms of Current's contract with Time Warner Cable the sale of the network to anyone gave Time Warner Cable the right to drop the network. They could've sold it to just about anyone and unless there was some reason to think that the financial benefit to Time Warner Cable of keeping the network on its systems outweighed what it might get from some other use of the system's capacity, it was gone. http://www.tvpredictions.com/twc121912.htm

8. I wonder what sort of ratings Al Jazeera usually gets

I really haven't heard anything bad about their news coverage. It would be great of they would keep a couple of the Current shows, like Stephanie Miller and TYT, even if they are tape delayed.

Well, at least I have Stephanie's podcast to listen to.

5. By the way, your link is to a list of assets owned by Time Warner Inc. which is a different

company than Time Warner Cable. Time Warner Cable was spun off as a separate and independent company three years ago.
