74. I'll bet it's eric cantor behind this. I bet HE is the one spreading the rumors.

Wouldn't he love it, with his planet-size ego, to take boner's place as Speaker of the House! You know he would! I'll bet he's doing it selectively and he has a bunch of his staffers and operatives and this little weasel who went on Martin Bashir's show spreading those rumors too.

SCHMUCK!!! I smell a rat. Although I smell a rat anytime someone with an "r" by his/her name comes into my field of vision or within earshot. It's basically because that's what they ARE. Fitting that they have "r" by their name. "R" in this case stands for RAT.

39. If The Repugs Really Want To Save Their Party From Extinction They Should.....

elect a non-controversial Congressman/woman as speaker to represent them going forward. Somebody who is relatively unknown - and trust me they will not be unknown for long once they become speaker as the media would take care of that - and I would pick a female if I were them.

It would take everyone by surprise. It would stun the WH because it would be so unexpected and it would cause everyone to have to play nice - if just because they need to get to know one another.

Just my thought. If I was in the intelligensia of the Repug party that is what I would do.

60. An Interesting Choice....

She has been in Congress since 1989. She was born in Havana, Cuba in 1952. Looks like she is on the Foreign Relations Committee. She's catholic and she has a district office down in the Florida Keys.

Wow - how come she's not a Dem?

Thanks for the suggestion of her.

I'm taking that as you might be in agreement with me that something like a relatively unknown Repug woman would be a good move on the part of the Repugs.

Being born in Havana makes her ineligible for the presidency and, by extension, house speakership.

OUR President has nothing to lose. It ain't gonna be pretty for whomever sits in the Speaker's seat.

As I said in an earlier post, the best/safest/smartest thing the (R)s could do is re-install Nancy Polosi. But nobody ever accused them of being smart.

48. I do think that. The division of the party is clear, especially given yesterday's vote.

Until now, Republicans in the House were in lockstep with the tea party faction. That is no longer the case. Without that, there is no unity, and without unity, some Republican housemembers will vote according to the actual desires and needs of their constituents. The result will be success for legislation that otherwise would not have passed.
