We need to make the spoiled little brats talk about defense spending- this is just stupid!

Defense spending has more that doubled since Bush took office.

The wars are supposedly over, and we are still increasing defense spending.

Republican logic tells us the tax cuts didn't cause the deficit and neither did their defense spending...

but we cannot just allow them to live in their delusion and denial.

We can't just keep letting them blame the least among us for their sadistic greed.

How do we make them face reality?

Allowing them to continue looting our nation is a luxury we can no longer afford.

1. Nobody is going to substantially reduce defense spending without

a giant, giant fight. I don't know if Obama wants that fight.

2. We are afraid of the bullies and don't want to stand up to them

So we give them our Grandma's retirement money, our kid's money, whatever they want... so they can continue to bully the world

No wonder we have a problem with bullies in schools

and emotionless pychopaths committing massacres in our schools....look at their examples!

5. It's just a huge, entrenched system with a lot of players. Not just $$$, but jobs.

It would have an impact on the economy that Obama would have to either bear or cushion, somehow.

4. Obama is interviewing for his Ex-President gig

If you remember back when the Sequester thing was happening, Leon Panetta was running around screaming about how no American could ever be safe if we cot a few billion from the $700Bn Pentagon budget. Obama was happy to let that happen, and he essentially said, "chill out. Once the sequester comes up, we'll make sure the pentagon gets plenty of money."

If you are looking for a person to take control over our military budget, keep looking. It is not Obama, that's for sure. Nor will it be any other third-wayer, like Hillary or even Biden.

To get any real change, we will have to see a reincarnation of FDR -- a true populist with some backbone. A Democratic version of Reagan, if you will.

And the thing is, Americans would vote for that person. Most Americans already strong favor progressive policies. And most Americans want to vote for the person who has courage of convictions -- stands strong on principle. Put those two together and you have a very powerful combination.

8. I am not that cynical. I do think Obama wants to move in that direction. Everyone

agrees that the DoD's budget needs to be whittled down--the question is, by how much, and how would it affect readiness? This problem has been building since WW2. Clinton made some stabs at it (you don't hear much about BRAC anymore). But Obama is going to receive MEGA pushback for trying to do anything substantive, and Obama does not fight battles he does not think he is going to win. Edit to add: They are pulling out all the stops to try and sink Chuck Hagel's nomination, and I do think that was a move by Obama to show he was serious about cutting the defense budget.

16. We will see. Panetta was a placeholder, he is impatient to retire for good

and Obama understands that, so I wouldn't put too much stock in whatever he said.

3. Today marks ten years since the Bush White House downplayed reports that the Iraq War could cost $50

Today marks ten years since the Bush White House downplayed reports that the Iraq War could cost $50-$60 billion.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/01/01/sproject.irq.war.cost/?fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Remember when Rumsfeld said the war in Iraq would take 2 weeks?

Why doesn't someone call them out on their bullshit?

Bush was going to fix the schools by throwing money at testing with no child left behind...

now the schools are fucked up and they are blaming teacher salaries.

See the pattern?

These hypocritical bastards aren't going to stop until we stop them.

Not to mention just spending more than the other top players combined.

18. First of all, let's call it what it really is: war spending

Saying that you want to cut "defense spending" makes it sounds as if you want the U.S. to be vulnerable.

Saying that you want to cut "war spending" makes the listener ask the question, "What war? Oh, those wars..."

They can set up a separate dept called "Department of Preemptive Wrong Headed Fake Evidence Based War for Profit and World Domination" and then see how many people want to donate their social security retirement funds to that.
