I'm not a whiner either. Do you see what's happening in the House with the rethugs? I am grateful every day for President Obama v. the possible alternative.
Sure, I'm not pleased with everything he does, but at least he's making an effort, which is more than I can say for a lot of these creeps. And I'm grown up enough to recognize that there is a certain amount of compromise involved.

Never heard the phrase. Just popped in my head and I liked the rhyme. Are rhyming words now reserved for Republicans? Hard to keep up around here.

Bernie Sanders who truly is for the little guy. I'm sick of the rest who claim to be dems but are owned by corporations.

depending on whether you base your opinion on what you read on DU, or what people who live in the real world have to say.

because that's where the 'real' people live. And DU is no longer reflective of the real world.

the executive branch of the federal government.

I think the separation of powers is a good thing and if people keep letting Republicans have power, then we have to deal with it.

There's nothing to "appease." The Republicans have real power if they hold the House. End of story.

You will see more of his leadership in the next two years. If we all pull together and give him a majority in the House in 2014, he will have a chance to realize some pretty broad progressive changes.

He is my President!

Although I think he's not the best at letting people know his accomplishments nor at selling them in the first place. But, despite all the obstruction he's faced, and the incrediblly bad hand he was dealt, he has accomplished more than many. (There are lists out there if you need them).

I also think he thinks in the long term, not the immediate skirmish, and won't show his hand until the time is right. In this latest skirmish, perhaps he could have held out for higher rates for $250K+, but he did get some higher taxes for those people in capital gains. Perhaps he could have held out for permanent fixes on tuition breaks. Perhaps not. We weren't there.

There's a mathematical concept, sometimes called the streetwalker's theorem, which is expressed this way: You are a streetwalker, you get an offer from a John, which is low. If you take it, you may miss out on a higher offer, or you may get no other offer at all. You have to decide what your threshold is for accepting an offer. Obviously, you can't predict the future, so you have to play the probabilities of what you think you might be able to get. Put in political terms, you are dealing with the possible outcome, vs. the ideal outcome.

Someone said Not to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
(Teddy Kennedy?).
