1. What a great lady. . . .

I didn't realize that five years have already flown by since she passed. What a shame to have lost her so early.

He made me laugh when he said that Rick Perry put the "goober" in "goobernatorial."

36. And Barbara Jordan.....

God, I miss her--maybe more than I do Molly!

"My faith in the Constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total. And I am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction, of the Constitution." Barbara Jordan, July 25, 1974.

9. I was explaining who she was the other day to a family member...

My mother loved her and died right around the same time. I always hoped one soul would meet the other, both continuing to inspire me.

It's my hope that someone will do a screenplay of her life because she should be celebrated by so many more Americans.

10. What a coincidence that you post this. I have just started looking into the world of

pocket knives, which has changed tremendously since I was a boy. In those days the swiss army knife was king. Now the variety of folding "pocket" knives is dizzying. And the number of fixed blade designs has exploded as well. I am sure that I'm well behind the trend but it seems to me that the market for "tactical" knives is just as big if not bigger than that of tactical firearms.

To be sure, knives are less of threat in a crowded room. And they are safer in general - although it might be easier to injure yourself while cleaning or sharpening a knife the type of injury is usually minor. To actually harm someone else you do need to catch them and that might be a challenge for some of the NRA crowd.

One of the last of a dying breed that STOOD for something.

Jim Hightower is getting Up There in Years too.

His comments on the NRA after the Colorado Theater shooting were dead on.

20. She also had something great to say

about Texas, where she lived - "Texas? Mississippi with better roads." She also said that the depressing thing about Texas was that, unlike Mississippi, Texas could afford to deal with it's problems but it chose not to.
She was a great lady and I miss her.
