Totally Sick and Tired of Serial Thread Hijackers

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by aikoaiko (a host of the General Discussion forum).

You know the ones I mean..the ones who post off-topic material on thread after thread to promote the agenda that they seem unable to get across on threads of their own.

This has happened to me twice in the past few days: one was a cut-and-paste job that the "writer" put on 8 different threads in a single day; and the other today, when I posted a thread about John Boehner being a lying sack of shit and another person felt it necessary to "tell" me that Obama and everybody else was just as bad as Boehner.

For the record: I do not buy into the false equivalency meme that has for years infested the media, and has now started polluting DU. The Reeps are worse than the Dems: look at the results of the past 30+ years and you can see that it is true.

Yes, Obama does shit I do not agree with. So do most politicos. But The Reeps suck lots harder, and when people try to say "yes, but the Dems suck too", they are helping the Reeps do their dirty work. And if they're helping the Reeps, fuck them.

If you really believe that the parties are "the same", or "equally bad", or something of such, then get your own damned thread and make the case there. Just please stop hijacking other peoples' threads because your case can't make in on its own merits and in your own threads.

10. Whereas MIR does immediate work, we need a team for serial pattern-disruption.

I could then be recommended to a jury.

Then there are the cut and post pasters. They follow a certain DUer. If response to them is a long post, they pull a sentence as though it says something awful. If response is a short post, they paste something long.

Regardless, they have no desire to discuss.

They're harder to discern.

16. It gets to be like reading a terrible book.

You're going along hoping for each comment to add something and then some random bullshit character shows up and suddenly it's a whole new ball game. And not a good one.

17. Kidding aside, you make a good point.

I've seen more than one post where the reply morphed from the OP's subject into the cause du'jour. In a recent case I read a reply to someone's post about the fiscal cliff that ended in a currently popular meme about banning guns.

I'm somewhat conscience about it, and I've still been guilty myself of getting a bit off course from time to time, but it's obvious that some start out with full intent to send their own message regardless of the topic at hand.

As a result, we have to tell Obama to get us out of Afghanistan, or we'll follow Russia straight to financial ruin (I can only put kidding aside for short periods of time).

Good post

19. I'm not sure whether you are complaining about people who disagree with you or about

the intruders who "glom" (a term used for a social custom at certain male-dominated universities in which male students surround a pretty young woman and compete to see which one of them will get to talk to her alone after all the other guys have given up) threads just to prevent intelligent discussion.

If it is the first, then maybe you should start your own blog.

After all, this group is called General Discussion.

Discussion is synonymous with

The word "discussion" -- has two primary meanings.

The first is: an extended communication (often interactive) dealing with some particular topic; "the book contains an excellent discussion of modal logic"; "his treatment of the race question is badly biased"

The second is: an exchange of views on some topic; "we had a good discussion"; "we had a word or two about it"

(and includes among other types of communication)

argumentation, debate, argument - a discussion in which reasons are advanced for and against some proposition or proposal; "the argument over foreign aid goes on and on"

noun
1. talk, debate, argument, conference, exchange, review, conversation, consideration, dialogue, consultation, seminar, discourse, deliberation, symposium, colloquy, confabulation There was a discussion about the wording of the report.
2. examination, investigation, analysis, scrutiny, dissection For a discussion of biology and sexual politics, see chapter 4.
Quotations
"The aim of argument, or of discussion, should be not victory, but progress"

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/discussion

We shouldn't participate in a discussion board if we just want to hear from people who agree with us on everything.

But if you are complaining about these characters who seem to come in groups and immediately hijack a thread with an interesting OP, posting all kinds of irrelevant comments, then I utterly agree with you. I have complained about this myself (not about a thread I started). Those who want to post nonsensical stuff or talk about their pet zebras in a discussion about foreign policy should have their posts deleted. Maybe we need a new rule about relevancy.

I'm not talking about legitimate sub-threads, but about obvious disruption. Posts in the latter category should be eliminated.

Thanks.
