Why would my SS check be lower this month?

I was surprised to see it was $7 less than normal, but can't imagine why. It's not that I'm going to starve, but I was just curious. I don't recall this happening in years before.

3. Yes, I realize that, but why would it suddenly drop in December?

The only thing I could think of was that they may have rounded out my payments and that's all that was left in my account for the year. I've never seen that before.

Just curious.

6. It wasn't really "your" check to begin with. The money will go to good use helping someone else.

I assure you.

Really.

7. It should not.

Things that may have caused this: deducting an overpayment. Did you receive any notice of any such issue? Or, did you receive a bit extra in November due to a recomputation. Was youd Dec pmt the same as your Oct payment? You can also check with your local SS office or call 1 800 772 1213. I wish I still worked for SSA so I could look this up for you.

8. I'll have to go back and check my earlier transactions.

I missed it if it was different than normal.

Thanks for your help.

11. Here is another handy number for gov. checks

These people send out the checks, so can tell you faster than SS the status of your check.

Financial Management Service (FMS), a division of the Treasury Department
1-800-826-9434 calls from 7:30 Eastern time

17. Is This Your January Payment That was Deposited in December?

Hard to believe it would be the 12/1 payment that you are just now questioning so I assume this is the January payment. Medicare premium adjustment is the most logical explanation but you will need to contact SS to verify that is what it is.

19. Not everyone receives their social checks on the 1st of the month.

I always receive mine on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. My December check was the same amount as always.

20. Is it possible that they deducted the increased Medicare payment in December?

Most insurance bills a month ahead.

A prescription drug plan premium, that is.
