NRA: How many members?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by aikoaiko (a host of the General Discussion forum).

According to its website, the NRA has 4.3 million members. (Google) And that is among 300,000,000+ Americans, so an insignificant amount to be concerned with, so where does the power come from to oppose the repeal of the 2nd Amendment? It takes money for the wolf to howl, where are the real masters wanting to strip away American gun rights? Are they corporatist, fascists, commies, is it Bilderberger group or the group Cheney belongs to, Soros? Someone up stream that is bigger than a few voices on a blog.

1. ????

You do realize that there are already requirements to repeal a Constitutional amendment...it's not just about NRA members...or the number of gun owners!

The power comes from the rules that the Founders put into place so that the US Constitution was more then just a document that could be changed on a whim.

4. There are no procedures to disavow any right that pre-exist our Constitution and does not depend

upon it. See US v. Cruikshank (1876)

Even if a right was not protected as an enumerated right such as the First, Second, or Fourth Amendments, government would still be required to protect it as an unenumerated right recognized in the Ninth Amendment.

2. I'm confused by your question(s)...

Are you asking which side is getting their funding from where?

The first was rhetorical and you answered it yourself.

I don't know if this is the right answer, but the NRA gets a lot of funding from fund raising and corporate 'gifts'.

Your second question about who wants to strip away American gun rights, it's probably not corporations or the Bilderberger group or Cheney or any mysterious entity hiding away in a secret mountain hideaway...it seems like it's other regular Americans who don't like the idea of an armed society.

6. Locking.

Too many references in OP to conspiracy theory type groups to be within the GD SOP.
