1. I would never be offended if someone wished me

a Happy whatever. Hanukkah, Festivus, Christmas... and I would assume that if someone from a non-Christian faith wished me a Merry Christmas, they were just being friendly and considerate of my faith's holiday.

2. Good god, you can say WHATEVER you'd like!

I have NO patience with busy bodies who tell others what they should or shouldn't say. I'm not even Christian, and I don't mind hearing Merry Christmas. Just don't ask ME to say it!

15. People are so gullible.

Where are all these mythical people who are offended by hearing the word Christmas? Has there ever been a verified sighting of one?

3. It's funny how we welcome Muslim and other religions for keeping their values...

...in the American melting pot. But when it comes to our own, we can't see the forest for the trees.

For those who might think it's because we know firsthand how awful fundamentalist Christians are, I say we have a pretty good idea that some Muslims and Islamists are much worse.

So from this non-believer to the Christians: Merry Christmas!

22. You're right, there is no 'war' on Christmas.

But for DUers who flinch at the thought of 'giving in' to a religious holiday in any way, I also say...yawn.

5. I'm an atheist and I use merry Christmas and happy holidays all the time.

They are theistic greetings. No big deal.

Seasons Greetings works too. Entirely non theistic.

The "war on Christmas" is a fabrication of Christian dominionists, attempting to portray the dominant culture as a victim of persecution. The issue of public space misuse is however not a fabrication.

Fuck him and his kind. Especially during this holiday fortnight.

8. I say "Merry Christmas"

all year round, in every situation. It makes my life easier.

"Good Morning" -- "Merry Christmas"

"Happy Easter" -- "Merry Christmas"

"How you doing?" -- "Merry Christmas"

10. Right wing propaganda = you must say "Merry Christmas"

The right wing always decries being "PC" but they are the ones getting their knickers in a twist most often.

13. Also, who are these "people" who are offended

when someone says Merry Christmas, especially to a Christian? There are lots of stories told by RWers about "people" who don't think anyone should say Merry Christmas, but I've never seen them produce any of these mysterious "people".

19. come to think of it I haven't heard a single Happy Holidays this year

And when told Merry Christmas I've either replied Merry Christmas or you too. I do think for the most part this whole war on Christmas is fabricated. In fact, I've even seen three public displays of nativities. Fox would have you believe that non Christians would never stand for such a thing, but there they are none the less. I myself feel that Happy Holidays is more respectful because you are including all the holidays. I don't see why some Christians find it so offensive when people don't bring special attention to their holiday over all others, but I really don't see a war on Christmas going on.

20. Of course it's fabricated.

A whole lot of people want to believe it for some reason, though.

21. I've long said Happy Chanukah to my Jewish friends

& they say Merry Christmas to me. Never thought that would make me Jewish or them Christians.

Never saw a problem with saying "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings." They're all inclusive.
