Is it my wife or is anyone else feeling that Wayne la Pierre should have kept his mouth shut?

He just waited a while so he could get all the talking points lined up and ready to go..and so they could easily identify "defectors".

His industry is in the business of selling guns & ammo..not cleaning up the carnage

The BEST thing for him to do was to not say a word.

But he can't, because the NRA can't look 'weak' in situations like this, too much money riding on it.

I've often thought that even if some of the head-honchos at the NRA were less militant and actually felt awful about the shootings, that they would have to keep their mouths shut 'or else'.

I think it is important for him to speak.

I have no problem with the NRA being the most reviled lobbying group in America. It should be. What they advocate is raving lunacy.

Let's see how big and brave this piece of dirt really is.

Will anything change her mind on this topic? Maybe if you get gunned down in a mass murder? Do you have kids? How about nieces and nephews? How many of them is she willing to sacrifice?

And right now, in the wake of Sandy Hook, there's serious attention being paid to shootings that would have only made local news three weeks ago. Every single day about 30 people in this country die from guns. Each day. Every day. About two hundred each week. But we don't need regulations, do we?

Given an politically charged debate, people like to shoot the messenger (NRA).

Would there have been just as much outrage (on DU and the media) had LaPierre and the NRA said they were going to donate $60M towards pitting cops in schools in addition to his speech?

Was about as dumb as it gets, if the goal was to protect gun rights in the USA.

so give him more to choke on.

But LaPierre’s speech was not aimed at converting people to his cause. The speech was a rallying the troops and circling the wagons speech. It was a speech that told those who believe there should not be restrictions on gun ownership that the NRA was going to work to hold the line on preventing additional gun control legislation. That was something around which people who believe that can rally.
It also was a warning to those legislators in areas where gun ownership is prevalent that the NRA was watching.
