Idaho's Sen. Crapo, facing DUI charge, had cultivated reputation as a teetotaling Mormon

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — When U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo (KRAY'-poh) sponsored a 2010 bill to cut taxes on small brewers, he said he did so for pro-business, not pro-beer reasons.

A Mormon, the Idaho Republican told The Associated Press at the time that he abstains from alcohol, and he pledged to have a root beer to celebrate if the bill passed.

Crapo's arrest Sunday in a Washington, D.C., suburb on suspicion of drunken driving contradicts his public persona as a teetotaling member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The church bar members from using alcohol, as well as coffee, tea and some other substances.

In a statement, Crapo has taken responsibility and pledged to ensure "this circumstance is never repeated."

1. Obviously, being a teetotaler would be the best thing

for him--he sure as hell can't handle alcohol responsibly. What a doofus.

3. Just another lying Republican, but I knew that when he was my senator.

The only problem is I couldn't convince the Idahoans I knew that all their politicos, the Republicans, lied to them to get votes. They certainly didn't do as they said.

4. "this circumstance is never repeated."

Meaning that he won't get caught next time.

6. Crapo also has a rep as an asshole, afaic..

Sure, you might be concerned that the Senator has abandoned his principles and values by drinking anything let alone being arrested for a DUI, but fear not. Crapo has a 0% rating from the HRC on gay rights, because while he’s obviously a bit confused about just how much booze one can drink before they’re too drunk to drive, he’s super clear that sexual orientation shouldn’t be protected in any way by the government. No rights for the gays!

8. Was he rushing over to the airport to meet his buddy Larry Craig?

I hear drunk Senators spend a lot of time in airport bathrooms, especially if they're Republican men from Idaho.
