What if the CT shooter, and his warped mother lead to worse?

Last edited Mon Dec 24, 2012, 12:36 PM - Edit history (1)

and a spark became a fire

one random act of extreme violence leads say to an archduke ferdinand, or Pat Tillman situation?

some solution is going to be needed that is more than window dressing quickly

1. I wonder if the doomsday preppers were getting anxious.

Sincerely, mom was a prepper, maybe the tension was getting to him.

Or maybe he was just a sick, sick, evil puppy.

3. If so...

...I'd say his means of showing it was rather singularly ill-conceived.

4. I have been thinking the same thing.

Lacking any suicide note, motive, computer files (he destroyed them before going on his rampage), or sense, what was the message he was trying to send?

5. OK that's more like it..........

Something to work with anyway.

He would still have to have been mentally unbalanced in a violent way to have reacted the way he did. If he hated guns and hated that his mother was obsessed with them, then logically it should have ended with his mother's death. Unless he took the final step at the school to spark a reaction publically. Personally though, I believe you're overthinking this. I think he snapped and the school shooting was the result.

I don't think this kind of inquiry is out of bounds though when you're trying to make sense out of the senseless. I personally have wondered if it would strengthen the case for stronger gun laws (at least with the political class) if these shootings happened more often in strongly RW, NRA supporting states.

7. I phrased it this way for a reason and might have phrased it wrong

friendly fire to achieve a goal by a copycat brings a horrible random event of insanity, into a political event of a totally misguided extremist for a cause like a terror event

which is why legislative action needs to be done quickly and have the correct effect and not just be window dressing because once there is a spark, how do you stop it?

and it doesn't have to be this event, but a followup one

11. Are you actually suggesting that this kid was a gun control advocate and therefore

decided to shoot up a bunch of school children?

I don't think you want to go there, buddy.

15. You are still giving this kid an awful lot of... credit? Which doesn't seem like the right word.

And frankly, I resent the idea that anyone who hates guns would shoot another living being.

13. Oh, sweet jesu on a bicycle...

what if...

Bottom line is that no one knows or will ever know what was in that man's mind. Rather than playing psychic guessing games, how about working in real time and space to make the world a safer place?

18. What world do you inhabit?

The world has many hot spots, some of which have been in war for decades and even centuries. Some of these places have militias and gangs run amok and which serve as shadow governments. There is much strife in the world if you pause to take a look.
