KOCH Says NO To Sandy Relief: -Victims Need To "suck it up and be responsible"
Billionaire David Koch’s prime political organization, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), having failed in its$125 million quest to oust President Barack Obama, is now aiming at a slightly less sophisticated political target: victims of Hurricane Sandy.
.............. Earlier this week, AFP, which is chaired by Koch and believed to be financed by several other plutocrats from the New York City region, released a letter warning members of Congress not to vote for the proposed federal aid package for victims of the storm that swept New Jersey, New York City and much of the surrounding area in October. An announcement on the group’s website says that the vote next week for the Sandy aid package will be a “key vote”—meaning senators who support sending money for reconstruction could face an avalanche of attack ads in their next election. Already, opposition to the bill is growing, although it passed one procedural hurdle last night. .............. Koch’s top deputy in New Jersey, a surly gentleman named Steve Lonegan, who heads the local AFP state chapter, called the aid package a “disgrace.” “This is not a federal government responsibility,” Lonegan told reporters. “We need to suck it up and be responsible for taking care of ourselves.” MORE: http://www.thenation.com/blog/171906/david-koch-now-taking-aim-hurricane-sandy-victims# http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/12/24/1173589/-David-Koch-fights-Sandy-nbsp-relief

and a step towards re-localizing and reinvesting in America. Of course a new start-up company couldn't hope to compete with Koch when it comes to economies of scale. But at this point, simply the fact that they are the "un-Koch" would be a major selling point for any would-be competitors.

|
Last edited Mon Dec 24, 2012, 03:42 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) Are there any alternative suppliers for these products? I assume the Georgia-Pacific/Koch Brothers brands are the most widely available at Home Depot and other big box-type stores.
Whenever we think about boycotts, we tend to think in terms of household products--at least I do. But building materials probably represent an even bigger market share for these greedy bastards. What I'm wondering though is COULD a contractor boycott Koch Bros drywall even if he wanted to? What source could he use instead, and where could he find it? There is going to be a whole lot of drywall needed for Hurricane Sandy rebuilding projects. A whole lot of plywood, and pretty much everything else on that list. It would be true justice if not one square inch of it were made by Koch Bros. But is that even possible? |

and yet he probably has a ton of Koch products in his garage and uses them at every job site, either because he doesn't think about it or because no alternatives are available. At this point he may not have a choice, but then that's the definition of "monopoly."

I'm not sure what you meant by your post, but No, they aren't responsible for the storm.
They are, however, responsible for their "fuck-nuttery", and for the statement they released regarding the aid for those recovering from the worst northeast storm in any of our lifetimes. I'm quite sure that had an earthquake or other natural disaster hit the off-shore bank where they keep their money, and scattered it to the ends of the earth, they'd be the first in line demanding the "gubmint" help them get it back. Napoleon may have been an asshole, but he did get something right; "Religion is what keeps the poor from eating the rich" They're not responsible for the storm, but their statement alone is enough for me to support a 90% tax on inheritance. I guess they don't have a contract to supply paper products to the hotels on the Jersey shore, because if they did, they'd be the first in line to get their "gubmint" money. |

|
It is no wonder that a family that controls so much of what makes things work, have also determined that they have the privilege of deciding our nation's social policy.
It is logical, and to them righteous, even if Americans don't acknowledge that. We have granted capitalism and property unbridled rights to stand above human rights and the environment for years. We 'built this.' Until this is remedied, we will have no peace or human rights. They own almost everything and are unafraid to show their true faces now. Why should they ashamed, when they consider this country to their property? |

70. Our problem is, as always, our fellow citizens. We are divided by shrewd psychological techniques.
|
Not just media, but the way we live. Suburban or not, we are in a society that is vertically organized, not horizontally. Our livelihoods come not from neighbors or our community as we once did in rural life. We get our religion and philosophies from impersonal groups that are corrupted by the rich and powerful.
We are entertained, not by our local piano or guitar player but a commerical medium that requires repetition to make the money it does. It appears we are addicted to a lot of stuff that keeps our minds busy enough to not stand still and look at the big picture. When I read statements like take their stuff, jail them, try them for war crimes, off wth their heads and national strike, those are solutions of th past. They came from much closer knit communities with long-standing roots in the local church, school, grange, or place of employment. We are like claymation figures being molded into what the rich want us to be and shifted around. Families are separated by distance, unable to share living space or expenses as they once did, many of them in the search for jobs. Each job lost means a world that is lost, each move means prosperity lost for many. They are not able to help each other, instead have to pay commercial firms. We have been hollowed out not only manufacturing wise, but socially. There are those who, like the young people at the DNC, the twins Julian and his brother were able to overcome dislocation and poverty due to the social safety net of school, food stamps, help going to college. We're working to restore that egalitarian sense of society but are being opposed to a different mindset many Democrats choose to ignore, but still exists. Am I saying it is hopeless? No, but as author Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said, All things must change to something new, to something strange. Many of us, as Kahlil Gibran said, What is this world that is hastening me toward I know not what, viewing me with contempt? Or as Charles Sanders Pierce said, If man were immortal he could be perfectly sure of seeing the day when every thing in which he had trusted should betray his trust, and, in short, of coming eventually to hopeless misery. He would break down, at last, as every good fortune, as every dynasty, as every civilization does. In place of this we have death. We are approaching a clash of unbelievable proportions if we don't accept the reality of where the power lies, forgiving each other as we move along to protect the things most valuable. Those are our goals and we work toward them with old and broken down as well yet uninvented tools. Peace Out. |

Are some hybridized version of the Grinch and Scrooge with some other demonic entity all wrapped up into the ugliest of humankind.
They may not be human... Their dad invented the John Birch Society so they've been steeped in this dung all their lives. Perhaps all their industries should be nationalized, just a thought. |

52. funny thign about Koches and New York
|
If so much capital was not tied up into Wall Street, they would have found it harder to make their money, so for them to leave the NYC area in ruins means that they are rejecting one of the main tools they used to get rich.
Then again, not many families have the honor of having helped out both Josef Stalin and Adolph Hitler rise to power. |

I thought of the "revenge" because of who they are. Vindictive goplutocrats who will punish anyone who opposes fascism. I hope this comes back to bite them in their Climate Change Denial ass. People who aren't able to get their Devastation from Freak Storms, rebuilt.. will be even more inclined to remember evidence of Global Climate Change. |
