FBI Investigated Occupy Movement as 'Domestic Terrorists, Criminals'
http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2012/12/23
The FBI organized a nationwide law enforcement investigation and monitoring of the Occupy Wall Street movement beginning in August of 2011. Just released heavily-redacted documents revealing the FBI's actions were obtained by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) via a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA). In some documents, the FBI refers to the Occupy Wall Street protests as a "criminal activity" and "domestic terrorism." “This production, which we believe is just the tip of the iceberg, is a window into the nationwide scope of the FBI’s surveillance, monitoring, and reporting on peaceful protestors organizing with the Occupy movement,” stated Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, Executive Director of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF). “These documents show that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are treating protests against the corporate and banking structure of America as potential criminal and terrorist activity. These documents also show these federal agencies functioning as a de facto intelligence arm of Wall Street and Corporate America.” The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, a legal nonprofit that focuses on civil rights, said Saturday that the 112-pages of FBI documents are now available for public viewing here. http://www.documentcloud.org/documents/549516-fbi-spy-files-on-the-occupy-movement.html#document/p1

8. Yeah
|
Well you definitely have to investigate peace activists and lefties... I mean why would you want to investigate groups that actually carry out attacks? Like anti-abortion groups and racists?
I guess those of us that worry about this sort of thing have to rely on Morris Dees and SPLC rather than have actual federal protection. |

15. History...
|
The FBI has a long standing history of going after the left and an equally long history of dragging their heels and having to be ordered to investigate right wingers and racists.
I would ask that, in addition to your guess, whether you know how many agents have actually been assigned to fundamentalist Christian terrorists? The very idea that they seem to routinely investigate peace activists and the occupy movement speaks volumes to me. |

17. The information about monitoring OWS was available via an FOI request.

Last edited Mon Dec 24, 2012, 11:37 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) Why doesn't someone make a request on behalf of the Tea Party?
The FBI is certainly not perfect but they have arrested white supremacists time and time again as well as shut down other hate groups. EVERY large group of protesters is likely monitored. And when a group that doesn't have leaders is in the forefront of those protests, it makes sense to find out what they might be up to. Just because someone in that group says they are peaceful doesn't mean law enforcement should take their word for it. I'm sure the TP faithful say the same thing. I see nothing nefarious about law enforcement doing their jobs to monitor large groups of people. Especially when there is the possibility of confrontation. |

|
You do not investigate people just for exercising their constitutional rights.
The tea party wore tshirts explicitly stating things like "we came unarmed-this time" and brought assault weapons to their rallies. Oddly they were not heavily investigated. If this was based on appearances and worries about security and violence and criminal behavoir then it shouldn't have required someone to report the teapsters. [link:| |

By labeling protestors as "terrorists" the current NDAA law could allow the "terrorists" to be arrested and detained forever.

Banks and wall street are the real power in this country. Banks call police and sheriffs to evict homeowners, not the city or government. And most definitely as your picture depicts, they will protect themselves. Gather at an intersection with banners and pamphlets and a bullhorn and zero cops. March on a bank and militarized, insectile police swarm swarm swarm.

financial malfeasance than could be found among the culprits who orchestrated a near financial collapse necessitating the Federal Government to pour in trillions of dollars to stem the rampant tide is breathtaking. Unbfin' unbelievable.

|
How would anyone know unless they looked into it? Take someone's word for it? Whose word? No one was in charge.
It's the FBI's job to find out if large groups of protesters are peaceful or not. Why denigrate them for doing their job and apparently agreeing that it was a peaceful movement? |
