34. Actually, that's what radical

NRA worshipers and gun fetishists do. Please explain to us again exactly why people need a lifetime supply of bullets, or multiple guns?

40. Since I am neither

a worshiper nor fetishist of that order, you'll have to look elsewhere for your answer.

One thing made clear though in historical context is large scale prohibitions don't work, whether they be for alcohol or the war on drugs.

41. Only the NRA and

its followers are taking about a "large scale prohibition" of guns. There may be a fringe element who are calling for a total gun ban, but the rational members of our society do not want to repeal the 2nd Amendment. We want to remove semi-automatic, high capacity deadly weapons from the general population, and promote more firearm responsibility. We want to step up enforcement of laws already on the books.

In the interest of accountability and responsibility, we also would like to see legislation aimed at registration and tracking of firearms similar to that required for automobiles, airplanes, and boats. Along those same lines, an insurance requirement for gun ownership would be a good idea as well.

And I agree that the prohibition of alcohol did not work, but I would like to point out that its subsequent regulation and taxation have worked very well, and have been beneficial to the tax income base, and the public interest. This approach also worked well in the reduction of smoking cigarettes in the USA. I also agree that the same approach should be used with recreational drugs.

16. So? Does that mean we should just give up and not attempt to

get some control over the problem? To me, this just means we need to work harder to try to get some action to control guns as soon as possible. Throwing up our hands and saying, "Oh well, guess were too late, the horse is already out of the barn, never mind" is not an option. We've taken that route too many times. Now look where we are....babies being killed in an elementary school.

obtain them.

18. It's a question of finding them.

Sure, you can ban possession of a previously-legal item, but with no registration of who owns these items, there's little way to carry out an effective round up.

Your good intentions, the need to do something regardless of effectiveness, has now MASSIVELY increased gun and magazine ownership.

resist firing them. The ammo will deplete, even with the paranoid-buying.

5. Over the last 4 years the Democratic party has been a god send for gun shops

A shooting happens. Then all this talk starts up about banning guns and leads to the righties to go out and spend all their money to stockpile more ammo and guns.

Then nothing ever gets passed.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

You would think these gun shops and manufacturers owe us a little kickback.

11. And since passing ex post facto laws is strictly prohibited by the Constitution, Brownells is fine.

If the anonymous sales are legal in the form that they are taking place in now, Congress can't retroactively make those sales illegal.

12. Don't care. It's is going to be illegal.

Why do they need 30 round magazines?

Nothing but killing machines that should be out of civilians hands.

Well regulated militias such as Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and the National Guard (and all active) should be the only ones allowed to have these type of magazines.

The civilans has the right to own a shotgun, a musket, a revolver, a bolt-action rifle, a pistol that requires a cock before firing - that is all.

The Founding Fathers did not _INTEND_ for any civilians to own a semi-auto or automatic guns. Only the military should have them.

14. So? Brownells need not care at this point.

If Congress did try to retroactively criminalize the way Brownells is selling its magazines at this point, the convictions should be unceremoniously thrown out of court under existing law. Brownells may continue to sell anonymously until this act is illegal.

The ammo will deplete over time. A ban of the gun and the ammo will dwindle the numbers. Many will be turned in. More will be removed from the streets when associated with crimes.

People's fear and paranoia should not stop us from doing what we must do.
