The US has 89 guns per 100 residents - the highest per capita rate, in the WORLD.

Number of guns per capita by country

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

1. USA
2. Serbia
3. Yemen

How many more guns does LaPierre think we need?

4. Also ...

Total Number of Privately Owned Firearms in the US: 270,000,000
Which is almost 90x more than the number owned by the US military (3,054,533 - the most expensive military in the world)
and more than 270x the number owned by all of the law enforcement agencies in the US combined (897,400)

12. Gallop has a more up to date poll

http://www.gallup.com/poll/150353/self-reported-gun-ownership-highest-1993.aspx which shows a higher self reported Dem ownership rate.
I like Nate's ability with numbers much better than Gallop but I don't know if his baseline is outdated or no.(using poll numbers from 08)

6. That's equal to 4.5 guns for each student in school below college level.

What could possibly go wrong!

10. Misleading. The gallup poll, noted on the website you provided

indicates that 42% of US households have a gun.

Thanks for the link.

15. 89 guns for 100 people

Where I live, 4 or 5 guys would have that many put together.
No guns here but I do have nine guitars though....

16. Yes, we may have 89 guns per 100 people, but far fewer than 89% own guns

It is not that out of 100 people you'll typically find that 89 of them own one gun. What you will find is that three of them own 20 guns each and then just a smattering of others have a firearm at all.

18. About 47% of US households own

guns.

We don't need more guns, to prevent gun violence. The theory is asinine.

20. It's a trend I find not at all comforting.

An increasing number of weapons, owned by a shrinking number of people.

Widespread ownership would be decidedly less alarming.

17. The gun manufacturers will not rest until 100% of adults feel obligated to bear arms.

That is the goal.

And multiple arms at that.
