Big Ed says that the "Republican Party is in ruins."

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. What do you think?

1. I've been looking for a sober analysis

It appears that Eric Cantor may have played Boehner and made him look like a chump. The right is screaming for Boehner's head but the middle is silent. Could there be civil war in the GOP? Could it effect 2014? I'm starting to wonder. I have a feeling the GOP is in for a long downturn. The only question is, will another party rise to take its place?

4. Obituaries of the living are always in doubt

And political parties have a history of "zombism"

I thought the DLC was dead, it came back in a third form.

5. Still yapping..........no, it's not done yet honey! Let it bake for a little longer.

Not directed at you Brigid, it's just something I said to dh in the kitchen a few minutes ago and seemed to apply to this post as well.

They're still twitching........they'll need to roast for a little longer before we can call it ruined.

Wait! Let's turn the oven to the self-cleaning cycle - THAT should push it along a much, much quicker.

6. They're not in ruins, but seems to me there's a fight going on, w/freshmen tea partiers trying to

take over the Party. Freshmen, mind you. Wet behind the ears. So emboldened by their constituents that they are speaking ill of their House speaker, bucking the Republican leaders.

But the people voted for those nut jobs.

Looks to me like the tea partiers MAY win in the end, if the old guard doesn't find a way to stop them in their tracks. Boehner tried to but failed. It's hard to scare freshmen who don't know enough to be afraid.

If the old guard doesn't find a hero to lead the way, I fear the tea party may win.

7. Strongly disagree.

Far too many states are in the tight clutches of the R's. Message to Ed: Get out of the bubble dude, there's politics outside of DC and they matter.

8. Nope. They control PA (13 of 18 house seats) and a lot of other states. They are stopping

everything the President proposes in DC with the senate filibuster and house obstruction.

9. In 2008 what was the narrative...that they would be a regional player.

2010 came along and we weren't paying attention and what happened to the House?

Never say never.

If you have ever seen a slasher or vampire flick the bad guys always seem to come back when you believe that they are dead, and it takes another 15-20 minutes to put them down.

Don't take your eyes off of the GOP ghoul and be ready with a hammer and bunch of stakes just in case.
