A 20-year-old man shot and killed Veronica Soto, a young mother of two, in an apparent road rage incident on Thursday. Soto and her husband had gone out to a nearby Jack in the Box in the Houston area when they became involved in a confrontation with drivers in two other cars. The accused killer Mark Trevino, and the victim's husband pulled guns.

"Investigators said Mark Trevino came to a stop, ran into his home on Addicks-Clodine, grabbed a rifle and started shooting. Soto was shot in the head. Her husband also pulled out his gun. 'They started shooting back and forth and the bullet went through the windshield, hit her and went out the back windshield,' said Matthew Soto, the victim’s brother-in-law," reported a Houston television station.

The station continued: "Soto’s distraught husband drove to his sister-in-law’s house on Las Brisas near Plaza Libre for help, but it was too late. The mother collapsed and died at the scene."

Soto had two daughters, ages 7 and 14. She just turned 30.

needs to be on the front page of every single newspaper until all of the gun apologists finally come to the understanding that it's the guns. Nothing else. The guns.

There is absolutely no reason why every single gun in this country can't be registered. All gun owners licensed and carrying some kind of mandatory insurance. With limits on how many guns any one person can own. No assault weapons of any kind.

That's my starting position. I'm sure there can and should be other restrictions.

44. I wrote to all the congresspeople from Kansas (unfortunately where I live)
Fri Dec 21, 2012, 11:19 PM
Dec 2012

and I sent the following:

I am writing to you as a resident of Kansas, and though I may not be a constituent of yours, I would hope to have some influence in how you vote on upcoming issues. My primary concerns right now have to do with the issue of gun and gun control. What I would like to see happen after that horrible tragedy in Connecticut is:

1. Ban on ALL assault weapons – whether long guns or hand guns. They are only used for killing people – hunters don’t need this type gun and if they do need them, they shouldn’t be hunting!

2. A ban on ALL high capacity ammunition magazines. No gun should be able to hold/fire more than 6 bullets before reloading!

3. A SIX MONTH waiting period before you may purchase a gun – either a rifle, shotgun or a handgun. That would allow more time for background and mental health checks.

4. Licensure of ALL guns; much as cars are regulated. This would also contribute to the tax base of each state. Existing weapon owners could be grandfathered in at no penalty IF they register their firearms. Should a firearm be stolen, it should be reported and the offender will be charged, not only with their crime, but with possessing a stolen weapon. The taxes raised by registering firearms could also be used to support mental health facilities.

5. Close the gun show loophole! Guns should only be sold by licensed dealers – whether they specialize in weapons only or stores such as WalMarts. Gun shows are a blight on society.

I have 13 grandchildren and I’d like to see all of them grow up. Three of them are either 6 or 7 years old, as were those children in Connecticut! I will be watching closely to see how you vote and will certainly campaign against you if you don’t support more gun control in this country.

You republicans should put your own interests aside and support the needs/wants of the populace. Forget the NRA!

I also sent to VP Biden today (with a few revisions). Today I received an e-mail from Senator Pat Roberts which pretty much says, his primary concern is "mental health" issues. I called the congresspeople whom I could not contact via e-mail and then my husband called them to voice his concerns. I also had my friends and adult children calling and e-mailing. I want them to know that there is a major concern about gun and gun violence and hopefully (but I won't hold my breath) they will do something about it! I will continue to badger them as long as I'm able for I can imagine nothing more devastating than losing a child/grandchild as they did in Connecticut last week!

If anything we are driven into a constant state of FEAR and preparation for war, home invasion, the Other etc.. It is rather scary to think our culture has accepted ASSAULT WEAPONS as the norm for protecting homes. It is a fabricated fear fed by the gun lobby for manufacturers who have not made enuf profits from the two wars and constant govt imposed violence around the world. We need to make the ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN permanent and ban mags/drums with more than 10 rounds.
