Two-thirds of Americans are against touching Social Security

to avoid the fiscal cliff. Or for any other reason. They are specifically against the chained CPI, as well as all of the other cute schemes to cut it.

So our President offered something Americans absolutely hate, when he didn't need to, because of some mad chess skillz? Do I have that right? That seems to be what a lot of folks are claiming.

This political stuff sure is fancy.

5. Yes! Why wouldn't Obama offer to add troops to Iraq or Afghanistan? Or

attack Iran?

There's all kinds of unpopular things Obama could have volunteered.

7. I guess you are supposed to be happy because

Cuts to S.S. which is solvent and has no bearing on the deficit, were offered up as part of a deficit reduction plan, but they were only offered up because the powers that be are so much smarter than us that they knew the republicans would never accept such a deal so there was never any real threat to S.S. it was all just a game of smoke and mirrors.

Except if you ask me, it all smells like bullshit. The same bullshit we were fed when a "public option" was in the works.

This mentality of "shut up until you have something to complain about" seems self defeating. If I am going to complain about something I'm going to do it before it happens, regardless of the "pony" jokes and the self righteous crap that seems to permeate what is left of the Democratic party.

11. But Manny, he wasn't serious, even though Pelosi and Hoyer thought so. Haven't

you been reading DU? He was just playing chess. He KNEW what Republicans were going to do.

I do admit I'm still trying to figure this out though myself.

Let me try again.

Dems want Tax Increases on the wealthy. Repubs do not.

The President knows what Repubs want more than anything else in the world. They want to cut SS benefits.

He also knows that Democrats and probably a lot of ordinary Republicans will go wild if they cut benefits. So, they come with with a plan, to give Repubs some cuts to SS and to make Dems feel that they are not really cuts.

So, he offers them the Chained CPI. Repubs want less tax raises for the wealthy, so they refuse. Obama doesn't understand, he gave them what they wanted.

This is the third time he offered them cuts to SS. But they want more.

But according to a few DUers, the president read their minds in advance and knew they would turn him down.

'They will turn down anything he offers'!!!! Okay, maybe.

So WHY, if that is the case, didn't he leave out SS since they would turn down anything he offered anyway?

Lol, see if you can understand this. I know I don't.
