Clinton Celebrates Kerry’s Nomination To State Dept., Hopes For Quick Confirmation

Clinton Celebrates Kerry’s Nomination To State Dept., Hopes For Quick Confirmation

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday released a statement in which she celebrated President Obama's nomination of Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) to serve as her successor, while also expressing hope for a speedy confirmation process:

Today, I spoke to Senator John Kerry and congratulated him on his nomination to be the next Secretary of State. I also spoke with President Obama and told him that he has made an excellent choice. I hope Senator Kerry will be confirmed quickly.

I have been privileged to know John for many years and to call him a friend, colleague, and partner. He will bring decades of service to our country and deep experience in international affairs. The son of a career Foreign Service Officer, diplomacy is in his blood. As a decorated veteran, he knows what it takes to defend our nation and our values. As a leader in the Senate, he understands how to build coalitions and craft compromises. As a statesman respected around the world, he will be able to sustain and extend America’s global leadership.

John Kerry has been tested – in war, in government, and in diplomacy. Time and again, he has proven his mettle.

2. WTF?

Who cares?

You're like someone running around making random irrelevant comments.

5. Really?

"There are those that were tweeting the day Rice withdrew and blaming Hillary, Kerry, and Obama for 'caving' to the GOP. "

There are people tweeting that Obama is a sellout, some are tweeting that he should be impeached, some are tweeting photos of their butts, none of it is relevant.

7. Oh brother

"That being said, hopefully the people of MA respect his decision and remember his Senate work. He deserves to be treated/respected the way Kennedy was."

You're as transparent as spring water.

9. "Honest" is posting about irrelevant tweets?

In any case, your concern is noted.

12. Issues?

Take a look at all the comments you self-deleted.

You do this in every Kerry thread. Is there something you're dealing with?

13. No issues

Mental health is good. Just deleted everything because of people thinking I always take swipes at Senator Kerry, when that isn't the case. Plus, everyone has made better, productive points and felt like all the above wasn't worth standing.

If you or anyone is interested, ran across this from EBONY magazine. It's a nice read.

16. It is not that "people" think you make swipes, you DO take swipes always

as "others Say" (something bad about Kerry.) This thread is NOT about whether AA people are upset that Rice was not chosen. There have been several on that and there should have been. It is a very nice endorsement from Hillary Clinton.

I am sorry that you are still upset that Rice was not chosen but I suspect that you might not even have known her name a year ago and if she were a white man (or maybe even woman), you would have no problem that she was not chosen.

Me, I think that she was the choice of many in the Obama inner circle and most of the inside the beltway pundits - especially the WP, which was the main source of all the rumors and which actually had the chutzpah to suggest that if Obama did NOT pick her after she was attacked, he was weak.

It would be a lot more honest if you quit the "people are saying" or "tweeting" garbage and just said I think ...... Saying anonymous people are saying something does not give it any more validity than just saying it.

The article is interesting on the difficulties of US diplomacy in Africa. As to not as progressive, as male as he is and as white as he is, Kerry is FAR more liberal and progressive than Susan Rice, the person the author is likely alluding to. Not to mention, as the article points out Kerry is strong on human rights - and Rice supported the mentioned Rwandan President.

15. Beautiful statement - you really couldn't ask for a nicer one

That all of it is true makes it even better. I hope that Obama was correct in saying that she would be back from her injuries soon. It is nice that she took the time to write this in what clearly is a really tough time for her.
