You Won’t Believe Where the Headquarters of America’s 2nd Biggest Gun Lobby Are Located
The Newtown, CT based National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) was established in 1961 “to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports.” Sounds innocuous enough.
But the NSSF also believes that assault weapons, like the Bushmaster AR-15 that Adam Lanza used to murder 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary school last week, are merely “modern sporting rifles.” According to The New Republic, they spent over $500,000 this year lobbying lawmakers to increase civilian access to firearms.
Even in the wake of last week’s tragedy, the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s website still boasts about their youth outreach initiatives, including the “Boy Scouts of America Council Challenge” program and AIM (Academics, Integrity, Marksmanship). Both of these programs promote gun use to children as young as 7-years-old.
Adam Lanza was not created by the NSFF. But he was the product of a violent gun culture that the NSFF has been nourishing for over 50 years.
