UPDATE: Modoc teen's plan included shooting a 'classroom of kids' at high school, police say
A Modoc teen is in custody after police say he was planning to shoot an entire classroom along with other targets at his high school today.
The teenage boy, 15, was taken into custody Sunday and is being held outside the county in a mental health facility, said Tim Barnes, chief of the Alturas Police Department.
His identity is being withheld because he is a minor, according to the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office. Schools have been closed early in the Modoc Joint Unified School District as a precaution, though deputies say the teen was acting alone and there is no danger.
Barnes said he didn’t know the specific targets, but the teen included “several faculty members and... at least a classroom of kids” at Modoc High School.
