Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Thu Dec 20, 2012, 07:27 PM

Well, we're an hour into 12-21-12 here in Europe. Pleased to report:

SO FAR SO GOOD!!! Will check in if any Mayan mayhem appears imminent.

Nothing more than torrential rains to report thus far. And unseasonably mild temps, but that's becoming more and more the norm.

Anybody have any disquieting disturbances in the force field to report from elsewhere?

That is her plans for tommorrow. Her birthday is christmas day and she will be 7. I ordered a Hello Kitty cake. She is crazy about Hello Kitty. Awe to be 7 again. Then again no thank you. We are SO used to very little windy days down here.
So tonight and tomorrow's "high" winds of...gasp...35 mph gusts have triggered a "special weather statement".
Temperature dropping like a rock, below 30 they say.

I think being inside and making cookies with a grand baby is a wonderful way to spend a day.

21. Yeah, that too probably...

also, if you're really into Mayan prophesies, the Dresden Codex (one of several Mayan scriptures distributed throughout Europe) shows a reptillian god pouring water at the end of the age. See the very last page here:

http://digital.slub-dresden.de/fileadmin/data/280742827/280742827_tif/jpegs/280742827.pdf

On edit: it looks like he's pouring it over the head of Quatzequatel?

82. You guessed it--my user name and account have

been hijacked by clever aliens.

They're using it to lull you-all into a false sense of security. Meanwhile, their diabolical plan of eradication spreads around the globe...

75. Glad you're still here

Let us know when the fireballs start shooting through sky.

Me, I'm up baking Christmas cookies.

84. Just checking in--no fire balls yet. Some fairly high winds

coming in from the North Sea, but nothing more dire...

Those Christmas cookies sound pretty good. Survival rations for the post-apocalypse?

90. Since I'm still here

I will be distributing them so that I don't overdose.

My dog is hysterical at the prospect. She is recommended eating the lot.

76. Good to hear.

I study indigenous peoples in Mexico, and I've been waiting to get this day over with for years. I'm sick, snuggled in bed with my dogs, and awaiting the snow here in central Ohio.

94. Surely some critical mass will soon be reached,

and we'll all be sucked into a giant Gangnam- style dance orgy in cyberspace!

Sort of like the Rapture, but to an electronic beat.

91. Things got pretty creepy for me last night (this morning)

Right on queue, my phone would not work! Had to restart 4 times and it still wouldn't let me do anything (which is alarming to anyone without a landline). Then out of nowhere the wind picked up and was howling really loud. For a few seconds I was worried and thought I saw aliens in the shadows. This morning I discovered that my keyboard, Swype Beta, went haywire when it turned 12/21 and that's why my phone didn't work. I wonder if that was the developers' idea of a joke?

93. Whenever electronics act up that way, my friends and I

always say: "The Computer Over-Lord is exerting his/her dominance over us underlings...just showing who's boss..."

Sort of like Hal in "2001--A Space Odyssey", if you ever saw that.
