Remember, Boehner rejected President Obama's offer

And over the cliff we go

Posted by Greg Sargent

John Boehner, at his minute-long appearance before the cameras today:

“Tomorrow, the House will pass legislation to make permanent tax relief for nearly every American — 99.81 percent of the American people. Then the president will have a decision to make. He can call on the Senate Democrats to pass that bill, or he can be responsible for the largest tax increase in American history.”

That appears to be a straightforward threat: If Obama doesn’t agree to raise tax rates only on income over $1 million, we’re going over the cliff. No other choice is offered. It’s one or the other.

That's one step closer to the fiscal cliff!

4. Republicans still don't get it that they LOST the election.

Good thing the American people (the majority) do.

If this is the best deal Boehner can come up with then over the "cliff" we go and the American people, overwhelmingly, will blame Republicans for it - in spite of corporate media attempts at making Boehner look reasonable and President Obama look inept (something they've been working hard at these past days).

5. Not too sure

That Obama realizes that he won in a landslide and that the huge majority of us are all for standing tall and refusing to be blackmailed by the loud mouth ignorant minority.

12. For a clue, check 2009-2010

He won an even bigger landslide in 2008, had big congressional majorities, and still refused to stand up like a Dem. What are the chances this time?

9. They get it, but they also know that they can get Obama to give them

anything they want. So it evens out

13. And they are wrong.

Just as your assertion is wrong. But I'm sure you disagree wholeheartedly.

8. Obama still has a chance to rescue his presidency and his party

by taking ALL cuts off the table, and at the same TELEVISED APPEARANCE declare getting assault rifles off the streets a top priority.

I wish he had the courage and morals to make such a move, but he doesn't.

11. They must be betting that Obama is desperate to make a deal

and will give them what they want just to get it done. I'm hoping they're wrong.
