So I wake up this morning and I turn on the TV

and it's tuned to MSNBC. The first thing I see is some skank on a crucify Hillary crusade about Benghazi and that she was faking being sick so as not to have to testify about it. Since I record Stephanie Miller on Current TV early in the morning, I start playing that instead. I decide to go to make coffee and there is a small earthquake maybe a 4 or less. It scared the shit out of my cat as I hit floor close to the sofa just in case it got bigger, but it didn't. It didn't even knock out the electricity which is what usually happens, so that was a plus. There was a smaller shake earlier while I was still in bed, but I though I had dreamt it as I was still pretty much at sleep.

So what else is going to go wrong today? How did your day start out?

And another quake. Gotta go!

Then our nuke plant, El Diablo, will be destroyed. Hello Fukushima.

6. I'm kind apprehensive about this.

It seems things are stirring when there a little ones in sequence that are a little stronger than the one before. We are sitting on a few minor faults and very close to the San Andreas.

13. I lived on Spotted Bull Run in San Juan Capistrano for a short time in the 80s...

Seven or eight good people shared a house with me, a wandering sort fresh from a divorce in Chicago. They helped me get my head and heart together...I owe Mike, Pete, Brad and the others everything I today enjoy in Detroit.

An earthquake one night in late 1986 caused the walls to shake. I got out of bed and woke everyone not yet up. Outside, the pool contained standing waves going from north to south. It was a striking image, as the waves went from one side of the pool to the other, seemingly without reflecting off the far end. I figured that was the direction of the epicenter.

A couple of months later, another earthquake. No one listened to me about getting out of the house. This time, I watched the waves come across the pool, from west to east. The epicenter was offshore, somewhere.

One of my buddies was ex-Navy nuke guy working at San Onofre. He told me not to worry. The entire western seaboard was hanging over a giant undersea expanse the boomers would use to travel with cover. I believed him until everyone started laughing. They'd heard the story.

In all seriousness: You stay safe. There are many, many good people in OC -- including the sheriff's department.

I witnessed the same thing from a big quake in LA in the early seventies. It's scary and fascinating at the same time.

17. I think the scare is over. There would have been another one or two by now

if this was building up to a big one. It's not the quake I fear. I've lived through some pretty nasty ones both here and South America and I pretty much know what to do. But I just don't care for the fact we are so near the nuke plant that is only built to withstand up to a 7.5 quake. You too have that problem down south.

or perhaps everything west of the 101 is beginning to separate from the rest of Cali. Maybe we can form an island nation

21. Really? That's interesting.

On Monday I heard a boom and then a shake. I grew up in a mining camp and it was exactly like when they set off dynamite to blast away the rocks, so I thought maybe there was an explosion somewhere although the local news never reported anything. These tremors I went through this morning were more like traditional earthquakes. However, I do live near Vandenburg AFB. There 's been nothing in the news again. Sometimes they tell us when they are going to launch missiles or stuff into space, but sometimes they don't so it's a good possibility that's what happened.

Sometimes we could feel the booms when they brought in the space shuttles over us, but there are no space shuttles anymore so it's a mystery.

If it's sonic booms though I am greatly relieved. Darn I'm a few miles east of the 101, so I'm stuck on the mainland.

On edit: I read your link again and I guess the news is reporting something and Vandenburg lies a lot. They say they know nothing and yet they are launching stuff but I guess because it's classified they can't say. I wonder what they are up to. I dated a guy a couple of times who was a retired from Vandenburg in the space program. He told me a lot of crazy stuff about what they are hiding under them and that they have had contact with space aliens. I stopped seeing him because he was coming across as crazy to me, but could he be telling some truth?

22. The wierd thing is...

they referred to it as "sonic signals". I wonder if they are testing some new weapon? Or maybe a meteor caused it?

According to the USGS "Did you feel it" web page something was felt all down the coast, even as far as Thousand Oaks:

23. Now they are saying it was an F-22...

http://www.sanluisobispo.com/2012/12/20/2334087/sonic-booms-earthquake-shaking.html

Did the F-22 bomb something?

On edit:

Walter <the seismologist> said the rattling did not appear to be caused by a sonic boom.

“There is usually no question about a sonic boom, because it is so abrupt,” said Walter. “What happened this morning was not abrupt, it was emergent.”

24. You know what I'm looking at my El Diablo nuke plant emails.

PG & E was supposed to be doing sonic booming on the ocean floor to test the plant's resistance to earthquakes. It's been up in the air because activists and environmentalists are against it because of the effect on the ocean creatures would be devastating. I wonder if they are doing it anyway?

Here's the website that ordinarily keeps track of this stuff, but I can't seem to find anything that says the seismic studies were approved.

25. Something seems really suspicious....

whatever it was definitely shook the ground, but it never registered on any government seismographs?

My partner said it felt like a shockwave from an explosion, but we never heard the explosion.

26. Exactly, although on Monday I felt an explosion and then the shock wave just

like a blast in the mines I grew up in. I thought maybe there had been an explosion somewhere but there was nothing in the news. So it's either Vandenburg or PG & E up to something.

28. Around 2003 I could hear practice bombing runs...

the bombers came from Lemoore and they were doing practice runs in designated areas of the Central Coast mountains.

According to this news article from today:

http://santamariatimes.com/news/local/air-disturbances-cause-windows-to-rattle-across-central-coast/article_f9cdd332-4ad1-11e2-84d9-001a4bcf887a.html

In 2003, sonic booms heard on the Central Coast were blamed on testing of F-22 Raptor fighter jets off the Central Coast.

They weren't just sonic booms back then.

35. I don't know...

but I swear this is what was reported in the news back in 2003. Apparently they are trying to change history slightly.

At the local grocery store people are talking about what happened this morning and they don't think it was sonic booms either. One lady said that boxes were knocked over in her garage. You can't tell me that wouldn't register on a seismograph.

“It was not something breaking the sound barrier; more like a loud and energetic engine making waves,” said Walter.

33. It thundered & lightninged a whole lot here after midnight last night & snowed.

When I took Dalai and Zoe out this morning, I noticed that the wind had blown down the neighbor's fence.

My 13 yr old Dalai Lahsa (Apso), who thinks she is about 2 months old, loves snow, so she went scampering over to investigate the neighbor's yard and I had to try to trot after her through 3 inches of snow in mules rather than risk going inside for better shoes and coming back to one ornery and quite disappeared old doggy girl.
