I have a wingnut cousin on the NRA payroll. He sent me

the following poem, which is supposed to make us all feel so much better about the Sandy Hook kids. I find it to be one of the most revolting examples of denial I have ever seen. Jeez, maybe we should kill ALL the kids so they can be this happy.

'Twas 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
When 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"This is heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
But Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
Those children all flew into the arms of their King
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
One small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
Then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"Come now my children, let me show you around."
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

I remember daydreaming pretty much the same sort of thing when I was about the age of those kids, but my "big guy who'll help me get my way" was a Gigantor-type giant robot. And Spiderman.

The author has a little trouble separating his fantasies from his prayers, so he dresses one up as the other.

ETA: How does the person who "wrote" this think he's any different than a terrorist strapping a suicide belt to a child in the name of Allah? Isn't that the fundie's favorite bogey-man?

Abundantly edited because my mind is obviously boggling.

seeing this insulting piece of shit too many times on FB. I took the liberty of explaining to several family and friends who posted it just why it was a disgusting, despicable, insulting piece of trash. Then my fellow seminary students and I discussed it in anger and disbelief and several weren't too "Christian" when they unloaded on their own FB friends/family who posted it. One person unfriended me (good riddance and tough shit), but the rest, especially family, stayed silent.

I am more convinced that there are several types of human brains, because nothing in the one I have would think that this is appropriate...for any reason.
I hope none of the parents affected see this.
Or any parent who ever lost a child. This is not comforting at all. Very disturbing.

They must think their sky-genii is worthless. According to them, he let humans take ownership of something he owned. That's not a very powerful sky-genii.

Sounds filled with anger, too. Must vote GOP.

...""May this country be delivered from the hands of fools" "

As I am made in the image and likeness of God (according to the Christians) and as that claim must apply to all, regardless of color or gender (or any other distinguishing characteristics) and as "consciousness" is the only characteristic common to people and the (as though) Divine,
therefore my awareness is the self same Divine awareness that KNOWS the fools are the gun-idolaters.
The bible, dear Christians tells you, no other Gods, no faith in any other protection.
Full transparency, I am not Christian.

"I'm taking back my schools!" That is, no more of those false history books. Real, unvarnished history is what is needed. That the truth might once again set us free.

I enjoyed following your thinking. The use of these little-ones deaths for such paltry political gain appalls me. Calling this use fecal matter and other expulsions wearies me. Thanks for the oasis.

Full transparency, I am a Christian. and yours in the fight for a more perfect union.

When he said "Suffer the little children to come unto me," this is NOT what he was talking about.

As for Jesus "taking care of" their mommies and daddies, I don't think so. While I am in favor of whatever faith or philosophy gets a person through, there is nothing quite as devastating as the sudden meaningless death of a child. It's like a bomb going off in a marriage, in particular.

My daughter's baby girl died of SIDS 2 1/2 years ago, and there is just no "getting over it." She normalizes her life as best she can, but the birthday and the deathday are very very hard. Christmas is a wreck, because her baby was born on Dec. 23. Her husband is gone now, too.

There is a trail of devastation in Newtown, CT. This slaughter of innocents is not like the impersonal wreckage of a hurricane, a flood, an earthquake. It was a human act of special malice.

Christ on a trailer hitch, some people are stupidly insensitive.
