I miss NewYawker99 (a tribute thread - NOT a copycat thread)Last edited Wed Dec 19, 2012, 08:21 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Speaking of Kef, I really miss the goodness and light that was DU's incomparable Roni, aka NewYawker99. Where ever you are, my friend, you are SORELY missed and SO needed here now.

1. That was back when DU was so small
|
we used to celebrate birthdays in The Lounge. Long time ago.

2. Of course she was the first person to welcome me to DU.
|
She always amazed me how she greeted everyone, posted the milestones and still had time for political discussion. She made the site a home to a lot of DUers she worked her magic on.

4. If I could vote for the "Greatest DUer", it would be very close between her and Kef...
|
...actually, I think a tie would be appropriate.

9. They were both so helpful to me when I first joined up.
|
Kephra taught me how to make a post in LBN, leading to a years long addiction to that forum. Roni made sure I felt at home here and showed me the Lounge. Heh, those were good days.
Yeah, they'd have to be a tie. |

|
Pretty much den-mother to the whole place. She is indeed missed.

6. Ah, me too
|
She was the first to welcome me within minutes of my first post. She had good radar for spotting newbies!
And the milestones... sometimes I forgot I was passing them until Roni posted it. Where is she? I wish she'd just pop in and say hi. |

I couldn't get over how friendly this place was. BTW, Canuck, you were not far behind her. We teamed up on a DUzy or two, as well.

15. Same here.
|
When I joined DU1 way back, she was there saying Hi. I used to look forward to her commenting on my milestone posts, too. I don't post a lot so I often used to wonder how she managed it! She was a gem and made me feel so welcome.

10. Someone here mentioned a few weeks ago that she had passed,
|
and of course I couldn't believe it and very upset about it.
But someone else said that wasn't true. Does anyone know for sure? I know she had not been well a few years ago the last time she posted. |

11. I pray that's not true. She meant so much to so many on DU...
|
...that, if she did pass, I would hope for an unprecedented tribute thread.
At the time she left, it was hush-hush. I never inquired further. |

16. Here's a post from just a few days ago, but I can't find the other one
|
where I'd originally heard the news:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1018&pid=257049 I think it was in a "DUers you miss" thread. |

Roni was one of DU's finest posters...a wonderful, warm person.

14. I remember both those personalities
|
and had positive thoughts upon seeing the names again. Unfortunately I can't keep up with all the comings and goings. And passings.
But, I am constantly impressed, enlightened and invigorated by many, many of the people here. This is my first stop for news every morning, just after rawstory.com. |
