The chained-CPIing of the 99% is just a "technical tweak" (or whatever nonsense they're calling it) as part of the deficit negotiations.
It's very likely that a second attack on Social Security will take place later on, to "strengthen it for our children": after all, it will go bankrupt in 25 years or so (which is unmitigated bullshit, based on cooked numbers from Timmy Geithner et al - ask me if you want details). So we have to "save" it! There's already been broad agreement that this should be a negotiation separate from the deficit discussions.
In all, the President's Simpson-Bowles Commission called for a 22% cut in the average Social Security recipients benefits. I expect that the assault won't stop until the wealthiest have that 22% in their own bank accounts.
The biggest bank heist of all time.
That's all I got. Let the Manny-abuse begin!
And sign the effing petition! Email four others and ask them to sign it too, right now!

(22,912 posts)The Republicans will never cough up any other meaningful new revenues that their accountants can't game. I am furious that Obama is already turning to cutting benefits while giving ground on allowing tax cuts on the rich to expire. He holds all of the cards on the tax cuts but won't play his hand - he would rather find a compromise the Republicans can live (well) with.

(154,021 posts)But what we need is a national strike. I am convinced. They won't pay attention until we the people take drastic action.
The attacks on the people by the elites will stop only after we take massive, concerted action.

(14,459 posts)Just like the assaults on the first amendment. Whenever a vote fails or a law gets struck down as unconstitutional, they're right there pushing the next bill in that does basically the same thing.
SSI and whatever other protections we have will fall this way- to constant pounding.

(37,648 posts)really really really ticked.
This is an obvious ploy for the Republicans to cut SS benefits for both future AND current beneficiaries. They're snickering right this moment behind their curtains.
And if the Democratic leaders think the masses are stupid enough to believe that taking money away from SS recipients is not a cut, then they "misunderestimate" the masses.
