In 2014, the GOP will run on Obama cutting Social Security benefits
Even though it was the GOP's idea and one of their principle contentions in negotiations.
Another reason why Obama should say heck no to this "grand bargain". President Obama thinks he is "compromising", in reality, he is simply being played for a fool by the GOP... AGAIN. President Obama seems to think his adversaries are reasonable... but he should have learned by now, they are not. They are not negotiating in good faith, and this will be a losing issue for the Democrats in 2014. The GOP is an intellectually dishonest, morally bankrupt criminal organization, but they know how to manipulate an electorate.

3. This is actually what I think would happen if Obama compromises on Social Security
|
The GOP will say Obama cut Social Security. The Republicans will try to run as the protectors of Social Security.
Same thing when it comes to the deficit. They got Obama to compromise on the Bush tax cuts in late 2010 and blamed him for the resulting deficit even though the biggest contributor to the recent deficit is the Bush tax cuts. Obama is like Charlie Brown and the GOP is like Lucy. They keep pulling the football away and Obama keeps trying to kick it as he falls on his ass. Enough is enough. No compromise whatsoever. |

4. Yup. The party will suffer historic losses again

he may go down as the most despised president in a Century. Unless he gives up the pretense and changes his party affiliation.
One small error in your post. The Repukes are not his adversaries - his adversaries are real Dems. |

6. Absolutely, which is why the very nature of the negotiation is so destructive. nt
