The Connecticut shooting sends a message that your own gun can be used against you

And that your own gun can put you in danger, as opposed to making you safer.

The statistics have borne this out for years (that the presence of guns on average doesn't make one safer).

But what happened in Connecticut is an event that is making many people believe it.

1. It's a fact. Like evolution and climate change.

Those who don't believe it deny the other two, too.

5. Pretty much what I see too

What I see around here is the same people who voted for robme or against President Obama are the same ones whose cars I see parked in the churches parking lots on Sundays and who squeal the loudest when anyone mentions anything about gun control.

2. Absolutely.

If you have a gun in the home it much more likely that you or someone you know will die then it is that the gun will ever be used for protection. In fact, if someone does break into your home and you do have gun and you are able to get to it, the likelihood of you being killed n the incident rises dramatically.

You want protection in the home get a couple of big dogs.

3. i've often told people that if they can get to their gun quick enough to stop a burglar

their gun is not secured safely.

and if they have the time to retrieve a properly secured gun, they probably have the time to get out of the house --and that would be the safer course of action.

4. I wonder how many rigidly conservative homes have both guns and teens familiar with guns?

I venture to say a lot of them. Those parents might be thinking about Adam next time they lock up their guns, wondering if their own kids know where to find the key during the next big blow up argument.

I was raised in one of those homes. There's always an argument.

6. a lot, though gun ownership is obviously broader than just conservatives

though demographically, gun ownership is mostly white and male and for that reason, would be mostly concentrated among conservatives.

7. I'm just saying that even gun loving conservatives have to develop some second thoughts

I don't believe they are all as unreachable by logic as they seem.

8. i agree with you

many gun owners, even conservative ones, are far more reasonable than the people, leaders and/or organizations that say they represent them.
