What about outing people who have flake weapons?

What if there were a place you could go to simply post the full name and other information about people with flake weapons, weapons caches, and so forth? Then employers could search for the names of prospective employees and rule out the ones who might be weapon flakes. Parents could find out if their kids were going to a home with a weapon flake in it. It might even help law enforcement identify criminals.

I'm thinking most of these people with AR-15s and AKs wouldn't want everyone to know about it. The impracticality of it would outweigh the cool pretty fast.

Here you go, Julian Assange.

The idea is to let a lot of beholders decide what they are willing to tolerate and what makes their skin crawl. For me, I listed a couple of examples, the AK and AR-15.

20. I anticipated this argument.

It doesn't hold water. True, Joe Schmo might have an AR-15 burglarized, but I think the criminals can already get what they need. And Joe Schmo already bragged about his AR-15 to a bunch of folks. And who says that Joe isn't a criminal himself. Maybe the cops would like to know he has an AR-15.

I realize it's a bit incendiary, but my suggestion does make a point I think.

27. I find the idea of publishing personal information about people who aren't breaking any laws...

...Repugnant. Fucked up like a football bat. Like Gladys Kravitz with a tap on all of her neighbors' phones and infrared cameras aimed at their bedroom windows.

Mind your own business.

28. That is your right, of course.

You wouldn't have to post the names of anyone. Other people might want to. I tend to categorize flake weapon ownership with child pornography, animal cruelty, etc. I actually think most flake weapon owners probably derive a lot of silly pleasure from pushing the envelope of the secrecy taboo. But this subject is bigger than that.

If someone posted "so and so has two twelve gauges, a deer rifle, and a .357 magnum" I doubt it would have much effect. But if they posted "so and so has an AR-15," then I think "so and so" might get fired the next day...or encouraged to leave.

42. I don't see how the Fourth Amendment plays into it.

I'm talking about a private site and individual citizens making the decision to post the names of the people who own weapons they would prefer others not to know about. And then it would be individual citizens deciding to shun or accept the people with the weapons. The Fourth Amendment and the Second Amendment don't come into play.

44. You could, rightfully so, be charged with accessory to a crime

If somebody steals the weapon and commits a crime with it.

It is fringe. There are far better solutions.

O'Reilly, stuck clock and all, accidentally bumped into one today, and there is precedent as well.

He said they should be registered with the FBI. I forgive him for not knowing the right agency, ATF. 1934 and 1968 and how we dealt with full auto guns are the precedent.

Read into it...legally owning a tommy gun is a real PITA and what can I say? Just getting cleared to own a Tommy is a royal pain. That alone has greatly reduced ownership.

it reads as a bad pun and possibly an enigmatic insult. A double entendre that uses a word which in slang not only means oddball but implies one who behaves in an odd or eccentric manner. It would not be my choice of words as it seemingly insults those on the fringes of society like the severe to profoundly mentally ill. IMHO. LMSP

Anyone could do that. I'm for banning assault weapons, but I think a true social nightmare visited upon the owners courtesy of the Internet might be more effective. Might hurt the market for these things.

29. Only about flake weapons.

Yes, I think if people want to have the weapons, then I want to know about it in the same way I want to know about someone who molests children or fights dogs. Owning an AR-15? Is that as bad as fighting dogs? No. Some people might not fire you for owning an AR-15. I would, but others might not. It's their right to decide.

This is the path we are on anyway. All these AR-15s that are flying off the shelves now will be flying into landfills as keeping them private becomes less and less possible in the Internet age.

People are getting more and more tolerant of things that were once "morally questionable." We are getting more practical. There is a practical difference between a flake neighbor who has a cache of weapons and one who is a swinger, and people are starting to get that.

Again, folks would have the legal right to do whatever is legal. They just wouldn't be able to keep their gun information private. Not because the government was doing it mind you, but because people on the Internet of their own free will would be doing it. It would not be stoppable.
