Bill O'Reilly actually said something I agree with

Ant AR 15 owner needs to register with the FBI. (It is close to certain licensing requirements coming from the 1934 laws). I would add anybody owning anything in this family, whether coming from the AR family or the AK family.

But Bill O'Reilly is on the right tract. Cue seismic change, social seismic change.

1. he doesn't go far enough.

how about banning such guns altogether.

There is no reason why anyone needs to own an assault rifle.

5. and there is no reason why we should allow people to own and drive Ferrari's

because the only purpose for that car is to break the speed limit and cause deadly accidents

but we find a way to regulate such things and we allow them for fun. Why couldn't the same be done for AR15s?

9. You don't need an AR15 to have fun

And comparing an assault rifle to a car? Seriously?

10. I don't believe there have been any mass killings

from someone driving a Ferrari too fast.

An assault rifle is designed for one thing, and one thing only -- to KILL.

11. That horse left the barn

The reason why Tommy Guns were grandfathered.

Owning one though, legally, it a pita.

2. How about a national registration system for those guns?

Could that be a compromise? Gun enthusiasts would still be able to own them, just go through a few more hoops.

As a gun owner, if such a system was designed to be fair, simple to go through, and not excessive in time (no more than a month to get said registration/permit) I think i could live with that

12. Essentially what he proposed

Not realizing it mind you, is what happened to Tommy Guns. They are machine guns. They are legal, but the requirements to own one are...hard and include a registry.

16. I would agree with it and I have talked to a few other gun owners

that have no problem with it. It's the ones that are brainwashed by the NRA they won't agree to any restrictions on guns period. Myself I don't even have the slightest desire for an AR-15 type gun. I have suggested the same thing numerous times the last few days but the gungeon bunch always come up with the same excuses, it won't work, it can't be done, it's unconstitutional, it won't help, etc.

3. wow

Even some of the worst RWers can take baby step toward a solution. Of course for Bill O this is a giant step. Now it's time to wake up the rest of the RW world.

7. I saw that and Krauthammer agreeing with him.

O'reilly also said that by registering with FBI, those that think gubment is going to take their guns, will get rid of their assault weapons. Of course, that assumes those who covet these weapons are really as law-abiding as they say.

Like poster above, it doesn't go far enough, but the fact they are throwing gun cultists under bus is interesting.

13. Surprisingly

I was flipping through channels last night and heard him supporting banning assault weapons to a pro gun individual (can't remember the name) I have been trying to find a video because I was in a bit of shock--the mayor of b/s mountain considering this?

And a side note, Piers Morgan is really passionate about this 2 nights in a row. He really laid into some extreme pro gun folks. If you get a chance to see the re-run at midnight check it out. Last night's show was good too. Not sure if they replay those anywhere.

18. Brits, Australians, Europeans, Japanese, and just about all others around the world

just don't understand the fascinating with guns in our society. I think most view it as simply bizarre and the view antiquated. Many of those countries have also seen the effects of warfare on their own soil within the last century, so maybe that also plays in the psyche (though much of the generation that saw it firsthand are getting older and dying).

It doesn't surprise me in the least that even a right winger like Rupert Murdoch came out in favor of some restrictions.
