A response from a FB "friend" to...

my response on his posting about more God in school and arming teachers

Background...He is one of those guys that lived life a bit over the line so to speak and now he has found Jesus.

"here's my reply to your comment.............the number of bullets a gun can carry has NOTHING to do how many people someone can kill. Forcing responsible people to decrease their ability to protect their life and other people lives does not make any sense! Would you have a problem if one of the teachers in Newtown had a pistol that carried 50 bullets and then had to use all of them to protect her life and all her students lives? John would you honestly consider changing the speed limit in Connecticut to 5 mph so that the next drunk that drives his car home from the bar would be less likely to kill someone if he lost control of his car and hit someone? Well?"

One of his other comments in his posting
, "my life was given to me by God and God alone. And I have an obligation to God to defend the life he gave me and to ensure I fulfill his plans and purpose for me in my life."

I am composing myself before I write back otherwise I am likely to go off the walls and eviscerate him.

1. Having a lot of God around doesn't stop clergy from molesting kids.

And is he really sure he wants to arm union thugs? That's what those teachers were, y'know.

11. What does union have to do with it?

I'm pro-union but this is not a labor issue.

2. Tell him that "Praise the Lord...

and pass the ammunition" is not in the New Testament.

3. Isn't it written somewhere that God says there is no greater love

than to give your life for another?

4. those chhristians who spout huckabee quotes

Will not change. I have a 81 year old kind friend who has a gay son and lost a daughter in a gun accident. She spouts what Huck says that the shootings in new water were because god is not in the schools. She also thinks Muslims are evil. She will keep watching these preachers and believing what they say.

5. I, my, me...I, my, me...I, my, me

That is a big part of the problem. They have no concern or compassion for others.

They feel God will take care of them if they are out of a job, money or food, but deny the same for others. For all they know, God is us...all of us that care for those who have nothing or are hurting.

At least the little angels are now safe from the likes of him and his guns.

6. Your "friend" is a fucking idiot.

And really not worth your time. He doesn't understand logical reasoning and is using false equivalencies and straw man arguments.

10. He is actually a musician that I know and liked his site

to keep abreast of where he is playing. He was always a nice guy but when I saw his post about Newtown I couldn't sit silent. And yes, he is an idiot.

7. Preached about this Sunday...

and have been steadily posting FB blasting, and smiting those
'irresponsible' 'Pastors' (there's an oxymoron...)
Who drag God into their own political agendas.

What kind of god do they worship who can be kicked out of any institution?
Truly not a divine being if he listens.. to us. pathetic theology.

Also disgusting to worship a god that hates...
no where in scripture does it say: Worship me or die.
A real god of compassion loves all his/her children,
just as we do.
I cannot love a god who hates anyone...

Real followers of the messiah never draw lines or boundaries....
whenever you draw a line in the sand, casting some out,
the Lord stands with the outcast..

This business of "It's MY Life.. fullfill his plans for me" is disgusting.
Totally egotistical, and not loving thinking.

8. If Looks Could Kill...

...the killer would have taken down far more people..."fortunately" he had an assault rifle that only destroyed the lives of 26 people and their families. Point is...no matter how you try to "discuss" with people who live off NRA and other talking points, as soon as you address one matter, they'll come up with some other wacky shit and you're back to trying to defend hypotheticals and prove negatives. It's the rhetorical games that are responsible for these deaths...the irresponsibility of gun nuts to find "justifications" for this country to be armed to the teeth.

I've totally avoided commenting on this sad story on FB...a waste of time. Just like here, I'm seeing people talking past one another...entrenched in their positions and in how right they are to find any place to actually discuss. Go ahead and respond but be prepared for goal posts to move as the denial is so strong in the "pro-gun" world that wants this story to go away while they stock up with Bushmasters...

13. Maybe you could reply "It's worth trying to do something

to reduce the chance of this happening again. I don't agree with being passive and letting inertia stop us from trying to make life a little bit better for all of us".

Because that's what it always is with a lot of conservatives -- inertia -- the we-can't-do-anything mentality.

ETA: Plus I expect that most teachers definitely do not want to carry guns. That's not a realistic option.

14. So G-d made no one else?

Your friend is quite arrogant to believe that only his life is worthwhile, or that G-d cares nothing for the entirety of creation except for him. Assuming he's Christian, walk him through the Gospel teaching, including the Beatitudes. It should resonate that his responsibility is to humanity, not himself

removed his posting.
Not a good idea to post crap when you are trying to build an audience for your blues band.
