DICKS Sporting Goods To Stop Carrying AR-15 Style Assault Rifles....NO LINK yet... Just listening to KATU 2 out of Portland Or. and they just announced that Dicks will no longer carry assault rifles effective the start of the sales day tomorrow. Maybe the outrage is catching.

Makes me not want to buy anything there again, but glad to see they are doing this. Hope it's for more than a few weeks of PR and then back to the arming of the militias.

Sales clerks at Dick's Sporting Goods stores across the West Coast tell WW tonight that the nationwide retail chain has stopped selling semi-automatic rifles in the wake of the mass shootings in Connecticut and Oregon last week.
The company, based in Pennsylvania, has not put out any formal statement about ending sales of AR-15 style rifles. It is uncertain if the policy change will affect all of its 511 stores. WW has asked Dick's for comment but has not received a response. But WW called a total of five Dick's stores in Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho, and asked if it was possible to buy AR-15 style guns. Sales clerks said that the stores either no longer carried the rifles or had suspended sales. "Unfortunately, we are no longer carrying those," said a Dick's sales associate in Washington state. Asked when the store discontinued sales of guns like the Bushmaster .223, he replied: "Honestly, about three hours ago." http://www.wweek.com/portland/blog-29567-dicks_sporting_goods_clerks_say_their_stores_have_stopped_selling_semi_automatic_rifles_in_wake_of_m.html |

with as many as 11 bullet holes in one and no less than 3 in the other little bodies, has pierced through to many people's souls. People who are in a position to do something about it.
Then there are those who are blaming the victims because they have no soul. |

Dicks bought Chicks....or as one might say "Dick's for Chick's" when company A buys company B. the headline was literally written that way.

15. Here's a link. The impression I get is it's temporary.
|
(CNN) -- Dick's Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, says it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut, and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.
The move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting "during this time of national mourning," the store said in a statement Tuesday morning. "We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy," the statement said. It was unclear how long the store will keep the suspension in place for the guns, known as 'modern sporting rifles.' http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/18/justice/connecticut-dicks-guns/ Personally, I'm smelling an attempt to mitigate the bad PR from their name being associated with the killer in any way. It's not as if they're pulling the high capacity clips off their shelves too, or anything. |

Last edited Tue Dec 18, 2012, 03:38 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) I know a group I used to be active with has been after them for years to just stop selling the high capacity magazines. They were not in the least receptive to the idea. However, maybe now they've really had a change of heart. I want to believe they have.
I think it was CNN's use of the word "suspension" that threw me into cynical mode like that. |

22. Big 5 and Cabella's Need to Follow Suit
|
Last edited Wed Dec 19, 2012, 04:50 PM USA/ET - Edit history (3) I was in a Big 5 "Sporting Goods" store yesterday looking for rain repellent spray for my shoes. Big 5 had the assault weapons for sale...I stared at the firearms on the wall behind the counter, and noticed one guy lusting after one assault weapon/rifle in particular. He was like Gollum in "Lord of the Rings." He saw me staring at him, and quickly walked away as if he were embarrassed that I saw him lusting after a gun. That firearms lusting look of his was unforgettable...a sickness...a mental illness. What are assault weapons doing in a "sporting goods" store? How "sporting" is an assault weapon in a deer (for example) hunting scenerio anyway? This has got to stop. Big 5 and Cabella's (and others) need to know that selling assault weapons is just not going to be tolerated anymore.
. .
. .
I am so frustrated with our slowly-evolving/quickly devolving species. We have to go through so much hardship before we EVEN consider changing our ways. Good thing we're on a planet that is tucked away in an obscure location of the Milky Way Galaxy! . . . . . . . . . |

23. If they're banned, the price will skyrocket.
|
I'm not saying management is smart, but selling them now would be a bad financial move for anyone. The ban would be on future production only, and every pre-2013 rifle could double in value overnight. Pristine unfired rifles like those Dick's has in inventory would command the highest price on the open market.
This happened in the '90s too, but it's just possible Dick's is showing compassion and doing this out of social concern instead of profit. Remember, corporations are people too, my friend. ...either that, or they're cold blooded money machines... I forget which. |
