can i say something about guns?

I'm not well versed in gun laws our gun culture and the only gun I've ever held was my ex husband's 40 year old deer rifle. The same deer rifle he held while he was waiting for me to drop off our kids belongings for the weekend, the one detectives believe he meant to take my life with had i not been running late, the same rifle he ended his own life with in the back yard of the only home his kids had ever known. But here's the thing, i don't want to take away your shotguns or deer rifles, i fully support your right to have them and your right to hunt. But to this day, 3 years later, when I think of the damage my ex could have done with a weapon like the one used in CT, at a time when he was filled with rage and sinking into the depths of mental illness that he refused to acknowledge or seek treatment for i can't catch my breath or calm my shaking hands. So forgive me if I don't support your right to own every kind of gun.

2. Bless you for your post

you have given us insight into what can happen. This was courageous of you to share.

This experience is obviously still raw and made worse by the tragedy at Newtown - I hope you and your children do find peace.

3. I hope you find peace

Forgive me for doing this, but this is the most common story of the 34,000 people who die every year. I am sorry your husband committed suicide.

4. i guess I'm not sure what to forgive...

the fact that it it's not unique to me isn't shocking, in fact, it makes me even more convinced that we need better gun control laws.

6. We need the laws and to increase

Access to mental health, and destigmitize it.

10. Could have been very tragic for your family.

You have taken nothing away from what has happened in CT. You have added a real part of the story of gun violence in our culture.

Peace to you. Sorry this has happened to your family.
