They need help now more than ever. Cash is best because they usually get great bargains on food purchases. However, food donations are always good. Check their website or ask them what they need most. I recommend canned meats, peanut butter, canned meals like raviolis, chili, etc. Toilet paper is a needed item. Of course dry beans, rice and oat meal are good, but food banks can usually buy those in bulk. If your food bank serves the homeless, include cans that can be opened w/o a can opener, plus warm coats and sleeping bags, tarps, gloves, wool socks, Sterno, etc.
And dont forget one of the most important donations you can give, volunteer time. Even one day a week helps.

(4,191 posts)and they pass it out to churches. There are things I would think they would need but then I found out they have bulk suppliers for these items. For example, our local gets a lot of cereal from a local trucking company. If one small spot on a huge box (one that might contain 16 retail boxes) is damaged during transport they cannot deliver that so they donate it to the food bank. Our shelves are filled with cereal and paper products like paper towels and toilet paper courtesy of another county business. Ours really needs canned meat and cash to buy items that are in short supply at the moment. They ask for donations of health and beauty aids like deodorant and feminine hygiene items that they are not allowed to buy with food bank money.
Thanks for reminding us about this need at this time of the year.
