1. I tried to make this same argument over the weekend and was accused of being part of the problem

Whatever we are able to get through the legislature in regards to disarming whackos and controlling weapons is going to be slow and expensive. Tax the hell out of guns and ammo. Gun "enthusiasts" (nuts) are the problem, they have to pay for the solution.

2. The Chris Rock Bullet Control Solution?

We don't need gun control, we need bullet control...

I kinda like it....

4. Define "heavily"... how much? What is the purpose of your proposed tax?

6. A dollar a cartridge, including empty cartridges to cover home reloaders.

One third to law enforcement (ATF) for anti-gun efforts, one thrid to education and one third to mental health promotion.

10. Cartridges can be reloaded. How do you ensure people pay the tax shooting rounds the 2/3/4th+ time?

5. That ship has sailed

There are enough guns, bullets and sociopaths to have a mass shooting every hour in the US, without putting a dent in the Preppers arsenals.

Someone floated what I think is a good alternative idea: require liability insurance on firearms, such that the policy holder is liable if their arms are used in a crime. Further, if you are caught possessing a firearm without a policy, you lose your right to have arms for some period of time.

Use the insurance model to 1) force people to secure their arms, 2) force irresponsible gun owners to choose between arms and premiums, 3) remove arms from owners who refuse to comply and take responsibility for potential damage.

Like the car model, different models have different premiums, and different owners have different premiums based on history (if one of your guns is stolen...your rates go up because you can't secure your arms, etc).

I think that in the poisoned system that already exists, its a different approach that could do some good.

8. At some point the ammo inventory dries up.

And for those interested I am talking a large tax. Like cigarette taxes. With the tax not only discouraging comsumption, but going to a fund to reimburse victims' families, pay for emergency room costs, etc.

11. If bullets grew from seeds you'd have a point.

And like the marijuana tax, we can imprison assholes who "evade" the tax.

13. No. But everyone who smokes, smokes a weed.

Therre is a reason that there is a saying, "Grows like a weed". Weed grows naturally, with little to no encouragment. It is nearly impossible to stop.

Bullets are not like that.
