About Dominos and contraception: Lets put this to bed please.

Domino's Pizza LLC
30 Frank Lloyd Wright Drive
Ann Arbor MI 48106-0997
(734) 930-3030

I spoke with two very helpful young men who had no issue stating clearly that Dominos is apolitical. They do not now, nor have they ever had any intention of blocking contraceptive access in any form. The founder separated from the company in 1998 and has not had any authority in company policy since then. He has absolutely NO SAY WHATSOEVER what Dominos does.

I stated to the second young man "Guy, the internet is like wildfire. I would highly suggest putting some kind of formal statement out there that can be seen from the corporation website stating you are indeed apolitical and have no intention of forcing religious beliefs on others." He replied "I'll forward that along, you're not the first to suggest that and hopefully the corporation can get this settled." I said "I take it you've had a few phone calls about this?" he laughed and answered "You could say that, yes."

So there you have it, if you don't want to take my word for it the address and number is above. Call them and ask.

1. Dominos has forever been the benefactor of the RW, so not sure why this might matter...

Gawd knows I've avoided them for 20 years and will do so from here on out, whether they oppose contraception or not.

4. My point is...

It's better to focus on what's real instead of hype. Hype is how we get distracted and it never helps anyone that I've seen.

Thanks for the response

2. Good to know. Thanks.

We don't usually order from them, preferring local pizzarias, but I understand they may have healthier choices on their pizza menu.

3. Monaghan retired and sold out to Bain Capital

Monaghan is still an antichoice idiot who still owns 7% of the stock and filed the lawsuit. Domino's pizza still sucks. Bain Capital is still a bunch of bloodsuckers.

If they want to be seen as apolitical, perhaps they need to have a long talk with Monaghan about how he doesn't run the company any more.

6. You can call or write and tell them...

The more that suggest a statement or split the more likely it will happen.

5. Do you work for them?

Somehow I missed any recent discussion on the subject here on DU.

7. No, I don't work for them.

I called to tell them I wouldn't be ordering from them anymore, they are only one of two pizza places anywhere near that deliver. I asked them about the issue, and they were kind enough to respond.

8. So long as they're owned by Monaghan

they aren't apolitical. They might be smart enough to be diplomatic in a letter.

10. They aren't owned by him anymore.

http://www.nndb.com/people/639/000059462/

Snip from the link.

After selling his interest in Domino's, Monaghan used upwards of $450-million constructing Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Florida, a "Catholic town" he designed and built from scratch. After being threatened with a lawsuit by the ACLU, Monaghan backed off on plans to have his town ban adult videos, raunchy cable TV channels, and the sale of condoms and birth control pills at drug stores.

9. Domino's Pizza

has been on my boycott list for decades. The have contributed to anti-choice initiatives (I read one account that called it a 'tithe') since forever.

11. I can turn a store brand, frozen pizza into an amazing feast

I have stopped buying take-away pizza in favor of tarting up the frozen ones and baking them, myself. I toss on extra pepperoni, peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese - what ever I think it needs and where ever my imagination takes me. I might not have a pizza oven, but pizza fresh out of my GE oven beats cooled down, fresh out of the box, any day.

14. I know this isn't the same subject but you made me perk up alot...

I've tried that and the bottom of my crust always gets rock hard in the oven, but not quite hot enough on the inside. I've tried playing with the temp, raising the pizza up(which burnt the cheese)... I even bought a stone to bake on.

I also tried making my own dough, but for some reason I can't get the hang of it.

16. A lot of stores, like Trader Joes, sell pizza dough, already made. Both fresh and frozen

I always put the frozen pie right on the wrack in the center of the oven, at 400 degrees. I just keep my eye on it and when the cheese starts to turn a light brown, out it comes.

Same location for the fresh dough, ingredients, but on a pan, of course.

19. Are you near

Aldi's....they own Trader Joe's but are much cheaper AND better. Always get the pizzas made in Europe. The crust is fantastic....the wheat grown in Europe is quite different than the crap we grow here. They need very little additional cheese or anything else.

They are the best pizzas I've ever had....except for maybe Billandi's when I was a kid...they're gone now.

21. I just made an Aldi's pizza, the other day. They really are good

Although I prefer Trader Joes, there isn't one by me, either. I shop at Aldi's for about 60% of my groceries.

22. I only eat the Aldi

pizzas that say they're made in Italy, Germany, or France.

I don't eat the Made in US ones due to the nasty wheat.

I loved their '4 Cheese Pizza.' I only have 2 left. Aldi's has lots of 'seasonal stuff.' When I find somthing I love, I go back and stock up on it.

I had some 'Torino' cookies made in the Netherlands....very similar to the 'Milano' Pepperidge Farm cookies....lots cheaper and tasted better.

I don't know what I'd do w/o Aldi's.

18. I'm with you!

I can't remember the last time I got a "take out" pizza. I've been making my own at home for decades

My current favorite is KansDem's Famous "Sleep Alone Pizza"

The ingredients (it's vegan!):

Pizza skin (one serving size)
Pizza sauce
Veggie chorizo ground sausage
Elephant garlic
Fresh jalapenos
Rice-based shredded mozzarella cheese
Oregano

Mix pizza sauce and veggie chorizo, about half and half, enough to cover the pizza skin;
Slice elephant garlic and jalapenos and lay out on top of pizza;
Spread generous helping of the "cheese" around on top;
Sprinkle with oregano.

Bake at 425 degrees for about 10 minutes, and you have KansDem's Famous "Sleep Alone Pizza" Yummmm...

Very tasty with ice-cold beer!

12. Of course the employees aren't politically in lockstep with the CEO.

It's kind of obvious that the workers have all kinds of political opinions unrelated to the big bosses.

Now, back to Monaghan: this is not the first time I have read about his extreme anti-choice views.

13. I have boycotted Dominos for years

the owner has been well-known as a supporter of extreme right-wing causes. This is just the latest.
