See, to me that's an argument that banning stuff doesn't actually make it go away.

6. That's not a machine gun

Having a grip perpendicular to the body of the gun doesn't magically make it a machine gun.

I've actually built one of those, incidentally, though it was in my attic not my basement.

10. right, semantic dithering blah blah thats not an assault weapon blah blah

Its a harmless hunting friendly happy gun that he used to kill 20 kids in rapid succession blah blah not an assault weapon but an assault rifle very important semantic distinction yaknow yaknow

so you dont know what your talking about because the clip holding the 30 bullets used to kill all the children was a yibberhoober not a flimmerhtter so gun grabbers dont know what they're on about blah blah

Nothing to see here blah blah no, nooo nothing we could ever do no regulation could ever keep anyone from easy access to this sort of shit blah blah

15. You're right, let's legislate from a position of ignorance

It's not a machine gun. It's not a machine gun. It's not a ****ing machine gun. If you want to pass a law that will do any good you have to actually learn something about the field. Otherwise you wind up with stuff like the Assault Weapons Ban, which said that that rifle cannot have a bayonet lug. Yes, really.

30. No, Mikeysnot did

Machine guns are difficult to make, expensive, and uncommon. Prohibitions on them can be effective.

Semiautos are much easier to make, much cheaper, and much more common. Bans on them will be about as effective as bans on drugs have been.

Includes the bushmaster 223, then you know what? BAN THEM ALL. FUCKING ALL OF THEM.

If it is totally, physically impossible to make a meaningful legislation between this:

And this:

Then BAN THEM ALL. And yes, TAKE THEM AWAY.

You heard right, we want to TAKE THEM AWAY FROM YOU. ALL OF THEM.

21. Well, those two can be distinguished easily

They have different cycles of operation. That's something you can regulate meaningfully, and in fact we already do, which is why you can't go to a gun store and buy an M16 or AK47.

Does it not give you any pause, at all, that all the people here who actually know about guns keep telling you that how the gun looks doesn't actually mean anything? All that matters is how it operates, and that weapon doesn't operate any differently from your grandfather's hunting rifle.

For example, this

and this

are the exact same gun.

24. Which is why ive said 6 bullets an hour.

That is a reasonable compromise that ought to allow for hunting and self defense. Hell, if you've got 2 hands, thats 12 an hour.

Plenty.

Anything with a higher rate of fire, make it a federal crime to buy, sell, or possess. With one of those mandatory minimum sentences.

That will end this shit right quick.

You can't actually keep a disturbed determined individual from getting a gun.

About the vast majority of gun deaths we can do a lot. Start with looking at handguns.

You can't create pirated copies of movies, even though anybody with a computer can do so.

Having a machine capable of producing high-powered assault rifles in your own home shouldn't mean that it would be legal to do so either.
